Samsung TV - Fast Forward Stopped Working

Hello all.

I'm using Serviio on my Windows PC at home to stream movies and what not to my Samsung 55 inch TV. For months it's allows fast forward and rewind etc...and all of a sudden the option is now grayed out. :(

Any ideas on how to fix? Something deep down inside tells me that the Samsung AllShare application is interfering in some way....but I can't be sure. I've tried other Media Servers and they allow fast forward. so not sure what happened...

Any settings I should double check, disable/enable and reenable again or reinstall required?

Everything is a .MP4 file. It's weird...because the fast forward, rewind features worked until recently....

Re: Samsung TV - Fast Forward Stopped Working

Could it possibly be a transcoding issue where the server host app isn't buffering enough data for it to fast forward? I've seen this with a few other DLNA media servers i've tried. It's just frustrating becuase this was working fine recently...

Does anything in here possibly provide a solution? http://www.serviio.org/index.php?option ... icle&id=24

Re: Samsung TV - Fast Forward Stopped Working

Samsung D Series will not ff any MPEG format files so that means that anything that is transcoded (MPEG-TS) will not ff. This is a Major Samsung defect. Search for my other posts on this.

Re: Samsung TV - Fast Forward Stopped Working

Clarification....the Samsung tv has a option on its interface called "time search" where you can jump forward to a point in the movie. This worked fine using serviio until recently and then it all of a sudden went gray. Works fine using windows media player as a DLNA server....

Re: Samsung TV - Fast Forward Stopped Working

Just checked on my D and Time Search is still there for mkv,avi and mp4, but not for mpeg which includes mpg and others like flv's that are transcoded to mpeg. In fact I have my Harmony programmed to use it and can jump forward 3 minutes or 9 minutes or back 2 minutes using the colored buttons.

Re: Samsung TV - Fast Forward Stopped Working

did you upgrade your firmware recently? Check you're still using the Samsung profile (ie your TV has not changed IP address)

Re: Samsung TV - Fast Forward Stopped Working

No firmware upgrade to my knowledge. Idea I had...there's a spot you can configure on the "Status" tab via Serviio where you can set a device profile.

Will that device profile mess with how it interacts with the TV? I think I updated the "Profile" field from whatever the default was.

That could be the issue....

I think before it said "Generic DLNA profile" and I switched it to Samsung TV (A-Series). I just updated it to Samsung TV/player (C/D-series). I'll see if that fixes it or switch it back to Generic.

You should use Samsung C/D profile.

Re: Samsung TV - Fast Forward Stopped Working

I've also got a problem with fast forward; My TV is a Samsung UE46D6100.

Although I've never been able to fast forward any videos, when I first installed Serviio about a month ago, it recognised my TV when I selected the Samsung C/D series in the profile box. Now it's just got an orange button next to it and the device name says 'unrecognised device'. Not sure why it's changed.

I tried selecting 'Generic DLNA Profile' and now I can fast forward my own videos which are HDV format (.m2t renamed to .ts as that's the only way the TV will recognise them - it was the same when I used Samsung Allshare).

I still can't FF youtube or BBC iPlayer, though.

Any ideas welcome!

Re: Samsung TV - Fast Forward Stopped Working

The C/D series TV will not ffwd transcoded content, it looks like a bug on their side with ignoring the file's duration and instead trying to work it out themselves.

Re: Samsung TV - Fast Forward Stopped Working

Thanks for the reply.

EDIT: Actually, on reflection I think my first question should have been why does ffwd work on my .ts files, and is there a way to make mpg files stream in a similar format?

[pre-edit questions]
Forgive my lack of knowledge on this, but what determines whether Serviio transcodes a file or not? Since it FFwds OK with my .ts files does this mean the TV can play them without transcoding? Incidentally since posting my first question, I've found that my old SD videos (saved in mpg format) don't FFwd, only the .ts ones will.

Sorry if this is a daft question; I don't really understand how this whole thing works exactly (and all the explanations I've managed to find assume a starting level of knowledge that I don't have).

Re: Samsung TV - Fast Forward Stopped Working

The TV can play m2ts files without transcoding most of the time. From my experience it will allow ffwd for some files and not for other, not sure what the main differentiator is.

Re: Samsung TV - Fast Forward Stopped Working

Thanks. Sounds like I need to wait for Samsung to release a firmware upgrade that fixes it (I might wait forever! ).

I think AllShare fixes the problem (which is probably why Samsung won't do anything about it). The trouble is the Allshare PC interface sucks.

If AllShare fixes the problem then Serviio should be able to as well. Can you test a simple .mpg file on both and post the results?

I'll have a go at some point.

I'll have to reinstall AllShare though - I uninstalled it when I found Serviio. The main problem for me is the inability to control its refresh behaviour.

Re: Samsung TV - Fast Forward Stopped Working

I have the same problem with my Samsung D5000.
I can Ffwd all my files on my HDD but no online content although most of them are not streaming content such as my Youtube favorites.
I also noticed that in my Info on de TV i get some strange time length indication such as 1538:23.4 which certainly will confuse the D5000.
Also, I didn't tick off TRANS-CODING in the Serviio console so I guess it shouldn't trans-code.
This is somewhat annoying and I hope there will be a solution for it. (if I watch a move from Youtube half way, next day I can't skip to that point :-( )
Besides my Samsung D5000 I also use XBMC Media center (on laptop) which also works great but presents the same FFwd problem.
The more I use Serviio, the more I am amazed and the more I'm loving it.
Thanks

Re: Samsung TV - Fast Forward Stopped Working

It is a known problem with the C/D series Samsungs and it is probably caused by the fast they are not reading duration that Serviio sends but work it out from the bitrate. Not much I can do.

Re: Samsung TV - Fast Forward Stopped Working

Hmmmm, what about the XBMC Media Center (on my laptop) who has exactly the same problem with FFww.
On the Samsung, in the TOOL menu I will get "Time Search" with all my "local" content, but with Online content it will not present this option. But when I go into INFO than I can see this strange length indicated.
It would be interesting to know if there're any DLNA players/clients who do NOT present that problem? Can anyone check this out on his player/client and report back please?
Thanks
