MKV Files wont play on my Samsung UA65ES8000

Hi All.... WARNING complete non tech head here...

I am REALLY struggling to work out a solution to my problem of MKV files not playing on my samsung ua65es8000

I have tried converting file format to MP4 and AVI via several tools.... i have also searched and read just about everything i could on here and google - unfortunately a lot of the more "advanced" fixes go clean over my head/skill level.

Surely with MKV appearing to be increasingly popular, shouldnt serviio just be primed to play these files in any environment with any device by now?

I also tried the "fix" in serviio of finding my device and setting it to the C/D series but with no luck there either?!

Surely there should be a fix that even a "lay" person like me can figure out how to apply to watch MKV files?!

It seems almost all of the latest kids movies i have tried to get for my boys are all mkv... so would love to figure this out soon... :(

Hope someone can take the time to offer a really easy to follow fix for this soon... heres hoping for kids sake as we have a couple of nice xmas movies id like to show them on the tv... not the pc...

In case you need to know i am running windows 7 on my desktop and connected via ethernet cable to tv...

Heres hoping someone feels my pain and can come to the rescue with a "simple" fix... thanks in advance if you attempt to help me with this!

dont even seem to be able to pull the file info properly from CMD:

Re: MKV Files wont play on my Samsung UA65ES8000

It looks like it cannot read the file in the folder. Check your file and folder permissions (of the file D:\MOVIES\3 KIDS MOVIES\christmas\The Polar Express 2004 and folder D:\MOVIES\3 KIDS MOVIES\christmas).

If you cannot work it out copy (not move) the file to another folder where you know you have files that do work.

Check whether you can play the files via Mediabrowser.

The log does say permission denied so that is your problem or the file is corrupt.

Re: MKV Files wont play on my Samsung UA65ES8000

So why is it do you think that both the MKV files work fine on my PC but refuse to play on my TV?

Doesnt seem to make sense to my NON technical mind???

If it plays on the PC - surely there is some way to get it to play on my TV... heres hoping...

EDIT: I have even tried converting it to both an AVI and an MP4 file format and still cant get it to play?? but all versions (MKV included) play PERFECTLY on my PC... really struggling to understand this.... and spent hours upon hours on google trying to work it all out.... hope someone WAY smarter than me can figure this out?

Re: MKV Files wont play on my Samsung UA65ES8000

Apps like Vlc are a lot more flexible at playing files that a tv, it can repair files and cope much better with any issues. While your tv is good it just doesn't have that same level of playback. Mkv is a container, which in theory can contain data your tv doesn't understand that a pc with an app can.
