network problems? or something else...

Hi everyone,

I have recently brought a new samsung ES6200. Everything so far has worked great until i tried streaming a 10GB 1080P .MKV movie. Every couple of minutes it has to buffer and i am trying to work out where abouts the bottleneck is in my setup.

all media files are stored on my SSD inside my laptop. Laptop is connected wirelessly to local router (802.11G not N) and the TV is also connected wirelessly to the same network. I have ensured no other devices are using the network during playback and have given Serviio a High process priority. After checking the network use during playback the most it ever reaches is 25-30% and yet i get stuttering/buffering on the tv...

I am thinking its the Wireless G network, but the numbers say otherwise, can anyone shed any light on this??

Thanks in advance,

Peter

I think you are right, the Wireless G network is definitely a potential problem. You didn't state what the bit rate of your file was, that is a more important variable than the total file size or resolution (you can use the free app "MediaInfo" or another video app to determine the bit rate of your file).

If you're going to be playing back HD video, you should use a wired connection for best results if possible. Even simply connecting one of the two devices (perhaps the laptop would be easiest) to a wired connection may help to improve performance.

The audio is another 1500kbs which probably doesnt help, although i do downsample it to a stereo stream with Serviio.
Also, my router is only 10/100. i dont have the cables to test it at the moment, do you think i would need a 1000mb port? or 100m should be enough?

THanks again
