Serviio timing out during playback??

I will be the first to admit that I do not have a lot of knowledge about networks and servers and such. I have 3 samsung blueray players, all were at one point connected to my computer via ethernet through my uverse boxes. I have just recently connected them through WDliverwire powerline adaptors thinking maybe my wifi wasn't strong enough to keep the connection. Unfortunately,, even with this change my videos still randomly timeout midway through the movie. So there went my theory. It's almost like the players are timing out after being idol or something, despite being in playback mode. When the movie stops it's going back to the samsung menu screen. As you know the fast forward limitations make it very difficult to get to the point where you left off. Any ideas or suggestions?
Re: Serviio timing out during playback??
I also have the same problem and for me it does it more frequently if someone is using the pc it is streaming from. One thing I figured out and it mostly works is once in movie press the tools button and input the time you left off at and press the enter button. If anyone knows how to fix the random disconnects or a like to a post with thee resolution it would be most helpful

Re: Serviio timing out during playback??
I get a fair deal of disconnects too.
My player is a C series and is on wired connection. It seems to me that it is worse with 6.2 that it was with 6.1.
Please advise

it's down to the quality of the network in most cases

Re: Serviio timing out during playback??
I get even more disconnects with 1.0 Pro. Both through ServiiGo and normal cabled network through VPlayer, Sony Blu-ray and Samsung Blu-ray...
The log tells me nothing when a disconnect happens...

Re: Serviio timing out during playback??
Happens quite a lot here as well. I'm using 0.6.2 on a Synology DS411j. When watching tv-series stored on the NAS every 3 or 4 episodes stops in the middle and the TV returns to the home screen.
Doesn't happen when using Samsungs own DLNA software on the PC. Also doesn't happen when the same files are played on a PC via the gigabit LAN. When it stops there's no other network activity and everything's cabled.
I don't think it's ONLY network related. At least not in my case. There's something that makes Serviio fall a sleep or something as it is now. Only happens when watching 20 min tv-series by the way. Not when watching 2 hour movies.

Mostly tv shows here as well. Does happen ones in a while for movies too...
Re: Serviio timing out during playback??
Strange. Here the network is flawless and it ONLY happens when Serviio is DLNA server.
That suggests that it is indeed Serviio and not the network that is the cause of it. Any thoughts, Zip?

At work, we have been having to downgrade java versions to make the payroll system function properly (this from the vendor, that they do not support the latest Java version)..
Is Serviio fully compatible with latest version of Java, or would a change to an earlier version be prudent ? I am running XP Pro and Java version 7 update 5 .. I have no complaints with Serviio's performance on this platform..the Olympics on BBC One have been a huge treat.
Re: Serviio timing out during playback??
It works with the latest, but who knows what Oracle may introduce in a particular release...

Re: Serviio timing out during playback??
I have replaced Java 6 with Java 7 on the NAS. Will test if anything's different tonight.
Re: Serviio timing out during playback??
Update: I updated java to version 7. No change in Serviio behavior. Java 7 seems to use less memory and release it faster than version 6. So that's good.
But Serviio is behaving the same regardless of Java version: after about 60 minutes of playback, ie. 3 20 min tv shows or an hour into a movie, on my Samsung TV, the video freezes for a couple of seconds, the screen goes black and the Samsung TV DLNA renderer tells me there's no video in the folder. I can then restart the file and watch for about an hour again until it stops again.
Strange. I can stream files via my PC over the same network via the same NAS without these hick-ups.

Re: Serviio timing out during playback??
Also have the same problem. Shows time out during the first 5 minutes of playback.
I have a Samsung D series, Java: version 7 update 5.
Strangely when I close Serviio and play using windows streamer, no hassles.
Great software otherwise, online feature is lekker!

Re: Serviio timing out during playback??
Yes, there's definitely some time-out issue with Serviio it seems. Here the network i fine, it os ONLY when Serviio is DLNA server.
Is there really nothing you can do about it, Zip? I hate being forced to use the stock DLNA software that comes with the Synology. It's crap - but it does serve its main purpose of serving content without loosing connection

Re: Serviio timing out during playback??
Not sure if I have the same issue, but on my D8000 I get random disconnects (the source has disconnected [ok]) ok takes me back to the TV.
This happens whether the PC is busy or idle. Never happened at all on my samsung 5 series
I'm running 0.6.1

Re: Serviio timing out during playback??
Same here...I had posted previously on .62 about this same issue. B series player. Saw in that thread that you were going to try a fix in 1.0, so I finally upgraded to 1.1 2 nights ago to see if it was better or worse...after rebuilding the database (overnight), I was able to play about 12 hours with no interruptions...thought things might be better. Tonight however - 3 interruptions so far on different files. Still very random. Rebooted my server - within 5 minutes another disconnect. So - its still very random on when and if it disconnects. Logs show same error as before under 6.2 - socket error at disconnect time (previous thread posts). Cat6 network wired, ran a 'bird' on the cabling and there are no issues, cabling tests at spec. Only playback device that seems to be affected is the Samsung device, and there is no rhyme or reason when and why it decides to disconnect.
Another thing I notice (I have a large video library), is when I reboot or restart the serviio server, doesnt matter if I immediately bring up my Samsung device or wait a few hours...on average it takes 3 times to be able to browse the file library without getting a disconnected error and returning to the main screen and having to once again select the serviio device in the Samsung. Now as long as my server stays up...this problem does not re-occur on browsing the database/listings until the next reboot.
I did notice while troubleshooting with .62 (when the disconnects were at their worst) that if I had auto-refresh the library turned on, no matter how high I set the timer in minutes, when it went into refresh, the serviio would disconnect in playback from the Samsung. (currently auto refresh of the database is turned off...doesnt fix the problem on reboots but I dont have the disconnect every time the database refreshes...although the 'random' disconnects still seem to occur, but not nearly as often).
Dont know if this gives any clue to what might be happening...but it is a symptom I have noticed. Maybe something about the way the Samsung accesses the database is adding to the problem, or the system putting out a packet that the Samsung is picking up?? Thinking outside the box here, so bear with me.

Re: Serviio timing out during playback??
That was actually one of the first things that came to mind here. I've tried with a Linksys WRT54G with stock firmware and DD-WRT as well as a Dlink DIR-655 router (which I'm currently using). Exactly the same behaviour on my setup. Everything's cabled with CAT-5E. It's only Serviio that has the problem; not Samsung's own DLNA software nor the stock Media Manager on the Synology NAS.
Re: Serviio timing out during playback??
You can try different (not necessarily latest) Java version.
