Do I need to install AllShare to use Serviio?

I have the Samsung UN46ES6150. The picture is fantastic, but the smart TV functions seem like 1980's computer technology - I'm not impressed.
I originally installed AllShare on my PC, however it seemed to indiscriminately include every video, photo and sound file on my PC (thousands). I then installed Serviio which I much prefer. I have no trouble initiating video streaming from the PC using Windows 7 Media Player, but the AllShare function on the TV has always been erratic weather I selected Serviio, AllShare or Windows Media Player from the Smart TV menu. After uninstalling the AllShare software from my PC Serviio continued to work, though erratically. I've since reformatted the HD on my PC, re-installed Windows and my applications including Serviio (but not AllShare). Now I can't get Serviio or the Windows Media Player to play videos at all from the TV. I can see the files on my computer from the Serviio interface on the TV, but when I try to play a video file I get a message saying the file isn't supported (it worked before with the same file.) Then Serviio and the Windows Media Player selections then disappear from the AllShare menu on the TV.

Should I return this TV for a cheaper Stupid TV or is this situation salvageable?

it sounds like a profile issue, you may have previously had an older version of serviio installed and a profile change in the new version may have caused issues.

can you tell us what profile you are using and post a copy of your server logs?

Re: Do I need to install AllShare to use Serviio?

I think I solved the problem. In an attempt to reduce the clutter in the Serviio menu on the TV I turned off visibility of all categories on the presentation tab in the Serviio console on the PC except video. After setting the video-Titles to Display category I'm able to see and play the videos in my Serviio library. The interface on the TV is much cleaner than before. (By default I would select videos -> Serviio -> Videos -> Folders -> Videos ... It took all day to get where I wanted.)

Now there's one more step to make this cleaner. I'd like to see the alphabetical listing of Videos immediately after selecting Serviio in the TV's AllShare menu, rather than having to select Titles[Video} (the only selection viable) first. Is this possible?

It seems that when I select a file to play in the TV's AllShare menu that isn't available for whatever reason it causes the TV to disconnect from the TV, after which I have to turn the TV off and on again to get it to reconnect (lack of robust programming on the part of Samsung?).

Re: Do I need to install AllShare to use Serviio?

Well I thought it was working, but after a while the video stops and I get a message indicating something disconnected. When I re-start Allshare on the TV Serviio isn't there. I have to turn the TV off and on to get it back again.

Samsung seems to have fallen off the wagon big time with this Smart TV thing. Is this what all the people who subscribe to Netflex have to put up with since they stopped sending DVD's through the mail?
