Playing movie from point stopped

Maybe I just can't see the obvious, but I've searched and searched through various forums and can't find any information on this subject ...

I can view video files from my PC over my home network, on my Sonia BluRay player, with the Serviio server on the PC. I can find no way to stop viewing a movie file and then sometime later (days or more) view the same video from the point that I stopped it.

Am I missing something, or am I just doing it wrong?

Cannot speak to your device, but my understanding is that the Resume from Last function is controlled by the player, not by Serviio. Devices that support this function generally only do so for a set number of videos (and sometimes that set number is one - ie. only remembers the last video played). In addition some events will cause it to flush its memory (eg. opening and closing the disk drawer, turning the unit off, losing the DLNA host).

If you stop a video and then press play straight away (rather than days later) does it resume from the last position? If it does, I'd say the function is working, its just that something is occurring over the few days that you wait to flush the memory for that file (eg. playing a different video, or a disc in the interim). btw, the PC works the same way - it will remember a set number of videos per player (its just that set number is bigger as your PC has vastly more storage at its disposal).

<edit> One or two last thoughts, sometimes the resume function is not supported by the player for certain file types. Is this happening for all file types? Are these transcoded videos - Serviio will delete the temporary transcoded file when its finished with it which may affect the ability to resume. </edit>

Thanks much for your reply. I really don't know a lot about how the transcoding, serving by Serviio and client services work together, but it makes sense that playing back from the last point is a client service. I'll have to check my Sony BluRay player and see more how it handles this, but I don't think it supports the function at all. At least you pointed me to where it's handled. Thanks again.
