Sony Bravia 22" - Playstation 3 - PC

Hi,

I have Serviio installed on my PC (Windows 7 Dual core processor) and I use it to stream video files through to the new ultra slim PS3 500GB HDD. The TV with this is a Sony Bravia 22 inch TV.

The video plays fine for a few minutes and then freezes/stops for a while. Sometimes It just closes the video file and when I re open the file it goes back to the start.

I've had this setup for a while but previous I had a PS3 (The fat one) and it worked fine for the most part but this occured on that aswell. I have a new fibre optic internet connection at 40MB.

I'm not sure where to start in fixing this problem. Please can someone assist me with this.

If you need anymore details, just ask me.

Really want to get this setup working!

Some queries:
  • Is this all files or selected ones? Is it only one type of file (eg. avi's)? Post MediaInfo details for an offending file - see viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4510
  • Are you using the standard PS3 profile in Serviio?
  • Does the file play via USB (or if you transfer it to the PS3 hard drive)?

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yes I am using the standard PS3 profile in Serviio. It happens with all the files I try and play avis and mkvs. All files play properly via a USB stick.

Heres the details from MediaInfo on the latest file that has done it.

Re: Sony Bravia 22" - Playstation 3 - PC

Its a large file - are they all this large? This file (unlike your mkv's) should not be transcoded by the standard PS3 profile - to check, can you turn transcoding off (Delivery Tab in Serviio console, pressing Save after changing). See if it plays any better/worse. Remember to turn back on after testing.

Given its all files, suggests its a failure in the transport somewhere - either:
  • your network can't keep up - what network are you using (wireless g or n, wired)? Use the bit rate tool from the wiki to see what bit rate the file is producing.
  • or your PC can't serve the file fast enough. What is the CPU usage on your PC when serving a file?
  • or your router is failing to transport the stream. Do you get any errors from the PS3 when the movie fails - eg. Loss connection with the DLNA server, or something to that effect. What router are you using? Check your IPv4 UPNP and Multicast settings (and disable PV6 muticasting if necessary) - see this post viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10289

Re: Sony Bravia 22" - Playstation 3 - PC

The files vary, depends if its a movie or just a series i've downloaded. I turned the transcoding off and it doesn't seem to have changed.

I don't think it could be the router as it's a new one, it's the new Sky Hub that they've installed along with the fibre optic broadband.

On the PS3 when I turn it on and go to the video menu and go into the folder "Downloads" in Serviio I get a DLNA Protocol error (2104) sometimes.

The CPU usage whiles playback on the PS3 is between 50% and 55%

Re: Sony Bravia 22" - Playstation 3 - PC

The fibre optic broadband is your external connection, so not really coming into play here. Its more your internal network, whether wired or wireless.

Having said that I still think the likely culprit is the router - unfortunately it is often the new routers as they support IPv6 and have options (previously these were often hidden) to enable multicasting and UPNP. It sounds like it is losing the connection during playback. Check your IPv4 Muticasting and IPv4 settings (both must be enabled). Then try turning off you IPv6 multicasting if this is available as an option. See the post I included above.

If the router checks OK, then we will need to get a detailed log from you, showing when the connection fails (click detailed log link for how to).

As DenyAll said getting logging turn.on and see what it shows up.

Sky router, while new, ain't all that....it should be able to cope though.
