[SOLVED] Would this subtitle be not supported?

Metadata:
creation_time : 2010-12-15 09:53:08
Duration: 01:53:51.86, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 10978 kb/s
Stream #0:0(eng): Video: h264 (High), yuv420p, 1920x1080, SAR 1:1 DAR 16:9, 23.98 fps, 23.98 tbr, 1k tbn, 47.95 tbc (default)
Stream #0:1: Audio: dts (DTS), 48000 Hz, 5.1(side), fltp, 1536 kb/s (default)
Stream #0:2: Subtitle: subrip (default)

Its in an mkv file but there's no language defined there in Stream #0:2 in the ffmpeg output? It works in VLC.

Note it is a large file, 9gb's infact. I've read http://www.serviio.org/index.php?option ... icle&id=33

Cheers..

Re: Would this subtitle be not supported?

I had the same issue. The solution is to open the MKV with MKVToolnix and change the subtitle language tag to something like spa, eng or whatever, and then remux it.

Re: [SOLVED] Would this subtitle be not supported?

Will there be support for subtitle streams with no language tag? Or do i have to remux them like suggested?

The problem is that i have a lot of these files and i don't really want to alter them. Some people just provide these "junky" files. Since media players and other DLNA Servers like PS3MediaServer are capable of displaying it, Serviio should it too?

This is a good question. when you read the serviio subtitle support page : http://www.serviio.org/index.php?option ... icle&id=33
Its seems that subtitle with no language tag are not supported.
Zip, could you confirm ?
Embedded files

A video file of a certain format (e.g. MKV) may have one or more subtitle tracks embedded inside. If enabled, Serviio will extract one of the tracks into a subtitle file and deliver (as a text or hardsubs). For a track to be recognized, it has to have a language tag, be one of the supported types an you have to define preferred language code(s) to match these tracks.

Re: [SOLVED] Would this subtitle be not supported?

Yes, the thinking was to not to transcode files and burn in the subtitles when:

1. people don't even care about subtitles
2. the burned in subtitle would be in a language the viewer doesn't understand

So language for embedded subs is necessary.

At least an option for that would be nice or a unique tag that i can use in the "Preferred language" field in the subtitles tab.
