BDP-S3100 Transcoding

Has anyone experimented with making any profile changes for the BDP-S3100? By default Serviio registers it under the BDP-Sx70/SMP-N100 (2010) profile. This player is so much newer that I would hope it would be more capable. Any suggestions?

Could you provide information about format supported by this device?

Re: BDP-S3100 Transcoding

Whoops. Silly me. I should have known better

AVCHD Disc Format Folder...Yes (BD, DVD,CD, USB, DLNA)
MPEG-1 Video/PS (.mpg .mpeg, .m2ts, .mts)...Yes (BD, DVD,CD, USB, DLNA)
MPEG-2 Video/PS, TS ( .mpg. mpeg, .m2ts, .mts)...Yes (BD, DVD, CD, USB, DLNA)
MPEG-4 AVC (.mkv, .mp4, .m4v, .m2ts, .mts)...Yes (BD, DVD, CD, USB, DLNA)
WMV9 (.wmv, .asf)...Yes (BD, DVD, CD, USB, DLNA)
Motion JPEG (.mov, .avi)...Yes (BD, DVD, CD, USB)
MPEG-4/ AVC (.mov, 3gp, .3g2, .3gpp, .3gpp2)...Yes (BD, DVD, CD, USB)
VC1 (.m2ts, .mts) ...es (BD, DVD, CD, USB)
XVID ...Yes (BD, DVD, CD, USB, DLNA)

It looks like MakeMKV (my preferred ripping software) rips DVDs to MPEG 2, and Blu-Rays as AVC L4.1, although I suspect that BD discs may differ based on original authoring.

My preference would be to transcode (if necessary) to something that would allow selecting different audio tracks and/or subtitles. Currently my SNP-N200 boxes as well as this new BD player have the menu options to select them, but I always get a "not permitted" error when I try them.

Re: BDP-S3100 Transcoding

This device seems support mkv file.

First, on serviio console, change profile to "Generic Profile", then list all file format that are not displayed on menu and file not playable.

Re: BDP-S3100 Transcoding

Weird. If I select the server using the generic profile, I get an error that says "Cannot find the server. Cannot load data.". If I change to any Sony profile, I can connect. I notice that using the Serviio determined default profile, my MKV files are transcoded (the screen shows them as M2TS). If I select the Sony BDP-Sx90 profile, MKV now appears to be native, and I can select different audio tracks. Woo hoo!. Not sure why Serviio was choosing the SMP-N100 2010 profile, but it certainly does not appear to be the best suited. I'm using a TV with no outboard audio, so I can't tell if it will send the HD audio bit stream intact. I'll play with that later this evening when I can commandeer one of my big TVs :D
