Old Sony Bravia with 2009 profile

I _think_ I have read every post about this and have tried many things but the problem still laughs at me!

[ProcessExecutor] Process ffmpeg has a return code of 1! This is a possible error. Detailed output follows.

Yes, I think it is an error...

...Transcoded file '/home/goose/serviio-1.4.1/tmp/Serviio/transcoding-temp-16-sony2009-ORIGINAL.stf' cannot be found, FFmpeg execution probably failed

Yes, it probably did!

As you can see I even tried putting the tmp directory below the serviio directory so it wasn't rights.

ffmpeg -i returns stuff that means it can read the container and stream.

If I select a different Sony profile then most of the movies I have disappear and some of them play, sorry, no real science there yet but the list I have is varied. On the 2009 profile none of them play though. AVIs, VOBs, MP4s and M4Vs all fail with Temporarily cannot access server. Please retry on the TV.

I think my problem is that my old Sony doesn't support very much and therefore most sources need transcoding. FFMEG is not quite right and therefore the transcode fails and my TV helpfully says retry. Is that about the size of it?

FFMPEG is :-
Source: libav
Version: 4:0.8.10-0ubuntu0.12.04.1
Depends: libav-tools
Filename: pool/main/liba/libav/ffmpeg_0.8.10-0ubuntu0.12.04.1_all.deb

If not tried to compile it yet as I can't see why that would help.

Am I forced to convert everything to a later profile that doesn't transcode?

Sorry if I have missed a crucial post but Serviio is new to me and I want to make it work!

Cheers,

Goose

For linux users, suggest to compile the latest ffmpeg version with all libraries needed : http://wiki.serviio.org/doku.php?id=build_ffmpeg_linux

Re: Old Sony Bravia with 2009 profile

goose@squeezeGoose:~/src/ffmpeg$ ./configure --enable-gpl --enable-libfaac --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libopencore-amrnb \
> --enable-libopencore-amrwb --enable-libtheora --enable-libvorbis --enable-libx264 \
> --enable-nonfree --enable-postproc --enable-version3 --enable-x11grab --enable-librtmp \
> --enable-libxvid --enable-libass
ERROR: libx264 not found

That is with both the git clone from videolan.org and the http://download.serviio.org/opensource/ ... f19.tar.gz with the ./configure --disable-opencl option set.

Seems like the instructions are missing a step?

Re: Old Sony Bravia with 2009 profile

./configure --disable-opencl is when you compile the x264 not when your configure ffmpeg.

Also, when you do last step "Add Additional Support to x264 (Lavf)", you also have to confure x264 with "./configure --disable-opencl".

Sorry, I should have been clearer, the ./configure --disable-opencl was when compiling x264...

Ok.

Do you know where x264 is at? You can run "whereis x264". I am taking it is at "/usr/local/lib/". Add /usr/local/lib to /etc/ld.so.conf then run ldconfig

Re: Old Sony Bravia with 2009 profile

goose@squeezeGoose:~$ whereis x264
x264: /usr/local/bin/x264

Tried adding /usr/local/bin to /etc/ld.so.conf (I'm assuming it's just that line no 'include' or anything) and running sudo ldconfig, no change when trying to configure ffmpeg. How many steps do I need to redo once ldconfig is run?

Re: Old Sony Bravia with 2009 profile

Ok, daft question but is x264 the same as libx264?

Re: Old Sony Bravia with 2009 profile

in a sense yes - libx264 is a library which is part of x264 package.

Adding a location in conf file does need a word 'include'

  Code:
include /usr/local/lib

How many steps do I need to redo once ldconfig is run?

Three steps

1. Compile/install x264 with --disable-opencl
2. Compile/install ffmpeg with --enable-libx264 and other options
3. Re-compile/Re-install x264 with --disable-opencl to enable lavf support (you do not have remove x264 for this step, reconfigure, make and re-install)

Great, that's moving things along, make is running for ffmpeg...

I'm away for a few days now so more after the weekend!

Re: Old Sony Bravia with 2009 profile

Lots of changes and I'm getting there and have a solution to most of the rendering challenges but I would like to see if I can get my Sony TV to do more of the work.

First off the changes...

I'm now running Ubuntu 14.04 which uses it's own fork of FFMPEG so I'm using the latest static build from http://ffmpeg.gusari.org/static/ and using the ffmpeg.location added to the JAVA_OPTS property. I'm also using Serviio 1.4.1.2 Pro as the new install has given me another 15 days to try and get it sorted.

The good news is that the transcodes no longer fail and there are no errors in the log file when the TV connects to Serviio and attempts to play a file. The not so good news is that for the majority of files I only get audio. If I fast forward through the video I then get the occasional swathe of colour that looks like a very young child has been let loose with a paint palette. Still perfect audio but no video to speak of.

I'm assuming this is a transcode failure as if I stream the same file to my Galaxy S4 using the MediaHouse Android app it works fine. I also have an HDMI cable for my phone so I can get round the TV not showing video content but I'd really like to nail this.

Any thoughts on how to proceed?

Cheers,

Goose
