DVD Menus Don't Work? Movie Split?

Maybe I just don't understand DLNA, and this is expected behavior. Or maybe I have a Serviio issue or a Sony issue. I just don't know.

I have several DVD images on a disk attached to my PC with a standard format of top level folder with the movie name, a VIDEO_TS folder under that, and all the movie files (VTS_X_Y) in the VIDEO_TS folder. When I fire up my new Sony BDP-BX320, it sees Serviio and it sees my movies on my network. But, if I select Serviio and then select 'Movies', I get the filmstrip icon, the movie name, the MPEG icon, and the file date, all repeated several times, 1 for each VTS file. If I click on the first one, I get the main menu screen, but I can't move between menu items or select them. When I click on any other of the entries, I get one section of the movie, which plays and then stops. If instead of 'Movies' I select 'Folders', I can navigate the tree for a movie (top level folder, VIDEO_TS folder, contents of VIDEO_TS folder), but the menu still doesn't work and I still can't play the entire movie in one continuous go.

My old WD TV Live Plus handles these networked movies just as though it is a DVD player with a physical disk inserted in it, and that's what I was expecting out of the Serviio/Sony player combo. Is this simply not possible with DLNA, or do I have some sort of issue in my setup/configuration?

TIA...

Were you using the WDTV with Serviio? If so, then the issue is with your Sony player.

I've never tried ripping a DVD into the folder structure, so I can't comment on how it might work with other players. I never cared about ripping anything but the main video, and MakeMKV works perfectly for that. Someone else will need to chime in if there's a DLNA restriction about this.

I may try ripping a DVD into the TS folder structure, just to see if my Sony will handle it. Might be a few days before I get to it, though.

Thanks very much for the prompt reply. My WDTV box is running in "native" mode, that is, its normal non-DLNA mode. So unfortunately, the problem could still be anywhere. I'd be very grateful if you'd try to do a full rip to a VIDEO_TS folder and see what happens.

Serviio does not support DVD TS folder structure. It play each vob files as a unique movie file.
You have to rip your dvd on a mkv or merge VTS video files to one mpegts file stream.

There were some opened tickets about that :

Yep, I tried ripping a disc to the folder structure and it's just a long string of files, all named the same and only the actual movie files have a length attached. It's just a mess.

I could see some value in having the entire disc content available, such as the making of documentaries, but to be honest I've never watched any straight from the disc so I probably wouldn't here either!
