Re: MPEG-4 Visual (Xvid-AVI) AC-3 PS3 Stuttering

Since no one has responded or said they get the same... here is some more info

My Serviio server is connected to the PS3 with 100Mbps link (just encase any one was thinking I was running Home plugs). From what I can tell, Serviio shouldn't be transcoding these files which makes this even more strange when a file which requires transcoding (MKV) 720p plays with no problems.

Not really sure what the test procedure is from here on.

Try disabling transoding in the console to be sure it's not transcoding. If the file still plays (albeit with stuttering) then the file is sent to the PS3 as-is and we can hardly do anything about it - it would mean the PS3/video encoding is to blame.

Re: MPEG-4 Visual (Xvid-AVI) AC-3 PS3 Stuttering

Hi Zip,
I did some more checking with detailed logging on to try and find out what is going on. The File is being sent in native mode and chunked, however There is a lot of I/O Error: Connection reset comming back. I also see a couple Broken Pipes.

After seeing this, I moved the Serviio server right next to the PS3, replaced the Network cables from the machine and the PS3 so it was just my Netgear DGN2200 connecting them, no other network traffic and it still happened. I then tried XBMC again which was going through 2 switches and it played fine.

It appears the PS3 is dropping the connection? Is this normal in chunked mode?

Is there anything I can change / try / post to help with this matter?

Re: MPEG-4 Visual (Xvid-AVI) AC-3 PS3 Stuttering

I don't have PS3 myself but from my experience in this field it just sometimes happens that a video is not playable. The device manufacturers have to pay licence fees for the use of the codecs but who knows what libraries they are using. If it's just one dodgy file I'd say either reencode or try to rip it again.

Hi Zip,
There are 2 files listed above, I also have MPEG-4 (Xvid) file with MP3 which are doing the same, but not as bad (play for a little longer). Moving the files to my External HDD on the PS3, the files play with no problems.

I assume the DLNA and USB players are quite different on the PS3, like on the majority of other devices. Therefore it's not conclusive that it plays via USB.

Re: MPEG-4 Visual (Xvid-AVI) AC-3 PS3 Stuttering

It appears media tomb has the same problem with the files. It would also appear that the PS3 is a rubbish media renderer based on this! Think its time to give up and place openelec under the TV.

Thanks for you help zip, and I wish the best success with serviio in the future.
