SONY BDP-S380 - S780 new Firmware include Cinavia!

Does anyone know how quickly Cinavia takes effect during playback? I updated my S580 this week, and tried playing a rip that should be protected. I let it play through, but stopped watching after 10 minutes or so. Not sure if it kicked in and skipped to the next title, or if it never kicked in. Going to try another title tonight.

Kind of sucks that the assumption is piracy - I rip movies for convenience, and was about to buy a Synology NAS to store my library. If this is the way the industry is going, I think I need to reconsider my plans.

SONY BDP-S380 - S780 new Firmware include Cinavia!

The title I was playing played all the way through. It's listed on Wikipedia as being known to have the watermark so I'm not sure what's up. I confirmed that I have the latest firmware (0615). I suppose I should be happy.

Has anyone here actually been impacted by this update?

I have'nt personally been impacted, but I have not updated my S480 to the latest firmware. All I know is that the watermarking is in the audio stream, I'm not sure if any software geek's are working on a way to iliminate Cinavia, but my guess is that they will be.

It does suck that you can't copy your own purchased material. It depends how much Cinavia is adopted by media producers in the future. With Cinavia and impending piracy laws.....the future looks less than rosy.
