Sony SMP-N100 sporadic error “the file is corrupt or unsup

I'm running the latest version of serviio on a PC with Windows 7 64bit.

I have a network with two Sony SMP-N100 media players connected via Ethernet cable.

Overall it works good - pictures and audio files play perfectly!

The irresolution are videos (mv4 and mp4 video files all encoded with Handbrake - default setting).

About half the time when I try to play a movie I get the error message "the file is corrupt or unsupported".
All I need to do is to try it again and it will plays perfectly.

Anyone having the same issue?

The log is very large.

This is the top section of the log.
The error gets repeated over and over "Error while processing resource, sending back 500 error. Message: Transcoded file...."
The errors matches when It fails to play the movie.
All I need to do is and choose the same movie again and it works.
Not failing every time, but 50% of the time for sure.

mkv files? if so its a known issue with ffmpeg, you can try the latest daily build see if its any better.

Unfortunately none of it is applicable to the problem I described above.
All movies play fine - its just they often take 1 to 2 tries (where I get: "the file is corrupt or unsupported").
Once it starts it works 100%

You have to found why ffmpeg crashed.

The error gets repeated over and over "Error while processing resource, sending back 500 error. Message: Transcoded file...."

Enable detailed logging, then try the same ffmpeg command line locally in windows terminal and post the error ouuput here (as explain in the previous FAQ link)

After a bit more testing I think I have a "theory" what is going on.

All my movies are stored on an external Samsung hard drive.

The drive spins down when it is not actively used - this is the key!

If the drive is in a resting state and you choose a movie to be played, serviio runs the ffmpeg.exe command ASYNCHRONOUSLY an it in turn places the trans-coded *.stf file into a temp folder.
The Samsung drive needs to spin up before ffmpeg.exe can start the trans-coding.
Since this takes a bit of time the serviio software moves on to the next step to play the movie.
It doesn’t find the file (since ffmpeg.exe has not started because it is waiting for the drive to spin up) and a file not found error occurs.

When I later look into the temp folder I see the trans-coded file in the temp folder that where created with the same date time stamp when I notice the failures C:\Windows\Temp\Serviio\transcoding-temp-32989-MPEG2TS.stf. They also play fine using VLC.

So the solution:
Somehow serviio needs to pole the temp folder longer (wait for the file to be created) before thowing an error, but this is better addressed by the experts
