the content can not be played due to copy protection

Hi guys, I bought a Sony KDL-32EX425 videos and all I see a boring message appears "the content can not be played due to copy protection."

This message appears in any video I watch, even in the same videos I recorded from my phone and in any format.

When I watch the same video and Windows Media servers operate normally without the message but I want to use the serviio.
Can anyone help me on how to solve it? Thanks!

Re: the content can not be played due to copy protection

It seems there were a DRM protection in this file. What is the application used in your phone for recording (a microsoft) ?
Could you post information "ffmpeg -i" result about this file (see signature link)?

Re: the content can not be played due to copy protection

I'm having exactly the same problem with absolutely all videos in my library. I have a Sony Bravia EX525. I'm attaching the result of "ffmpeg -i" for one of this files, hoping it can be of any help. But please note that all my files have the same issue.

were did you get the films from ?? if they are DRM then your out of luck getting them working over DLNA cause it wont work.

looks like a normal mkv. Make sure you're using the Bravia profile.

Re: the content can not be played due to copy protection

Hi, Petr

I do use the Bravia profile. The tv can't see my files with the generic profile.

Just to provide more information, this is happening with all kinds of movie files, even, for instance, low resolution avi files.

Thanks in advance

And this message isn't displayed if I use other media servers, like PS3 Media Server or XBMC.

Re: the content can not be played due to copy protection

Evidently, I downloaded it from Serviio site: http://download.serviio.org/releases/se ... nux.tar.gz

A small correction in my last post: since XBMC doesn't transcode files, only 2 files I have (an mpg file and an mp4 file) are played in my Bravia TV using its Media Server (the others aren't supported by my TV. Curiously, the mpg file is played using Serviio without showing any copy protection message; nevertheless, the playback of the mp4 files does show it. Possibly, it's related to transcoding (or remuxing) of files: whereas the mpg file isn't transcoded at all by Serviio, mp4 file is. Taking this into account, I can make some notes:

- first of all, my Bravia TV can play this mp4 file without any transcode, so why is Serviio transcoding it? May be because other Bravia models can't handle it?

- since the only movie file that can be played using Serviio without any copy protection message is the sole file Serviio isn't transcoding, this issue certainly has something to do with Serviio's transcoding process (or, may be, with its DLNA implementation...);

- PS3 Media Server trancodes my files too. Nonetheless, no copy protection message is displayed at all when I reproduce a transcoded movie using it. What are you doing differently from them that is causing this strange behaviour? May be you can get some insights trying to answer this question.

Thank you very much!

Nope serviio work strictly to the DLNA standard but sadly sony do not.

ps3 media server uses Memcoder and not ffmpeg.

Thank you very much!

Well hundreds of people are using Serviio with Sony devices and Serviio is recommended by Sony themselve as the best media server with their devices, so i very much doubt that serviio is to blame and not something you have done with your files.

Re: the content can not be played due to copy protection

Phil, if you could be less emotive and more reasonable here, probably you could be of some help. Take a look at your posts in this topic: all of them are quite unfriendly and certainly helpless, as if you need to defend Serviio from my attacks. I'm not criticising Serviio in any way. Quite the opposite: I've found Serviio a good program that I want to use and, exactly because of that, I want to help solving a problem involving it. Testing and debugging are an important part of any software development. Healthy systems have good user bases able to provide valuable bug reporting, and it's exactly what I'm trying to do. Consider the following scenario: first, suppose the problem is in your software; if you simply assume the problem is in the user side, you will never find or fix this bug, and the software doesn't get better. If, on the other hand, the problem is in fact in the user side, you will only be sure everything is ok in your software if you check your code and make tests. You can't just assume it's a user bug without any check. It would be a naive and irresponsible approach.

But I don't want to argue with you. It's useless. I just want to solve the problem pointed by joseneigodoi.

Is there anybody here that really want to help me fixing this? If so, please review my last post first and take a look at the arguments I pointed out. Also take into account that 2 different users are reporting they are having the exactly same problem, and with similar Bravia models (KDL-32EX425 in joseneigodoi case, KDL-32EX525 in mine). I'm help to provide any further information you find necessary to solve this problem.

Thank you!

Re: the content can not be played due to copy protection

are these 2011 models or 2010? i'm not familiar with Sony numbering.
The message might be misleading, maybe it doesn't like the stream for some reason and displays this message - so it might be slow transcoding or similar.

Re: the content can not be played due to copy protection

Gustavo wrote:A small correction in my last post: since XBMC doesn't transcode files, only 2 files I have (an mpg file and an mp4 file) are played in my Bravia TV using its Media Server (the others aren't supported by my TV.

Yes, you are right, this is probably due to transcoding.
mpg file is delivered in native format, so played using serviio without any copy protection message
mp4 file (not supported by 2010 models) will be transcoded using serviio and display the protection message
mp4 file with XBMC Media Server delivered the file in native format (probably with video/mp4 mime-type, to be confirmed), played with the 2011 TV model without protection message.

Gustavo wrote:- first of all, my Bravia TV can play this mp4 file without any transcode, so why is Serviio transcoding it? May be because other Bravia models can't handle it?

Yes, Sony Bravia Profile is based on 2010 model (mp4 not supported), I did not have 2011 model, but there were a thread for 2011 model : viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2079

Gustavo wrote:- since the only movie file that can be played using Serviio without any copy protection message is the sole file Serviio isn't transcoding, this issue certainly has something to do with Serviio's transcoding process (or, may be, with its DLNA implementation...);

Yes, probably, we have to look at Sony DLNA implementation...

Gustavo wrote:- PS3 Media Server trancodes my files too. Nonetheless, no copy protection message is displayed at all when I reproduce a transcoded movie using it. What are you doing differently from them that is causing this strange behaviour? May be you can get some insights trying to answer this question.

This information is useful, do you know WireShark tool and could you compare message between your TV/Serviio and TV/PS3MediaServer ?

Sorry, but we need 2011 users (you) to implement the best Sony Bravia profile configuration for 2011 models.

Re: the content can not be played due to copy protection

Great, guys!

I know WireShark, although I'm not very familiar with it. But I'll do some tests in the next few days. Unfortunately, today and tomorrow I'm a bit busy and won't be able to do it. But certainly I'll do it soon. Also, I'm gonna do some experiments with profiles.xml, trying to get the most efficient profile for my TV model. As soon as I do that, I'll report the results for you.

I have an extra information I didn't tell before because I think it's not that relevant, but now I'm giving it anyway: my model is a Brazilian one and, as such, is manufactured for the ISDB-Tb standard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SBTVD). It has some advanced decoding requirements not found in most DVB standards (like H264/MPEG-4 AVC and HE-AAC). Probably it has nothing to do with the copy protection message, but it would be nice if the profiles.xml could take it into account.

More information in a few days. Thanks.

Re: the content can not be played due to copy protection

Ok, these are the logs of the communication between Serviio and my TV, and between PS3 Media Server and my TV when playing a low resolution avi file:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2081272/SonyBraviaServiio
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2081272/SonyBra ... ediaServer

Remember that, when playing the transcoded file with PS3 Media Server, the copy protection message isn't displayed.

Also, I tried to comment the following lines of config.xml:
l.379: <Matches container="mp4" vCodec="h264" />
l.382: <Matches container="mpegts" aCodec="aac" />
l.391: <Matches container="mp4" />
and played a high definition mp4 file that previously caused my TV to show the message. Now that the file is not transcoded, the message isn't being displayed anymore. So, the issue has certainly something to do with the transcoding process or with the information provided to my TV by Serviio when streaming the file via DLNA.

Sorry but your log files are unusable, use standard txt file.

Re: the content can not be played due to copy protection

But they are standard txt files... they are the direct output of Wireshark. They just don't have the .txt extension.
Anyway, I renamed the files and now they have the .txt extension. Please, see if renaming it is enough. If it isn't, I would be grateful if you could tell me how to configure Wireshark to write the log in a format you can read.

Re: the content can not be played due to copy protection

Sorry, not seen it was Wireshark capture,
Its ok, open with Wireshark without problem (the Wireshark extension are .pcap, .cap )
Let's have a look.

EDIT: That would be nice to have the serviio log file along the Wireshark files, its difficult to catch proper packet...
