Fast forward and rewind with AVI files on Sony TV

Hello, I recently moved from PMS-linux to Serviio wich is a great application. Not much streaming applications can work with Sony TV (mine is a KDL40EX500) but Servioo is nice, working on my Ubuntu Server.
However there is still a problem that can be prohibitive wit fast forward and rewind.
These fonctions are going fine with .TS files. And the pause function is also working well.
But with .AVI or .MKV, trying to move back or forward stop the streaming with an error "lecture indisponible" in french that is "playback unavailable" according to Google translation. The only way to get out is to stop the movie. But this is not enough. Trying to play again the movie cause the same message. I have to start an other movie, then stop it and restart the first one wich accept this time to play. Very strange. And very uncomfortable because it is not possible to stop, resume, or fast forward. And it is not always possible not to be disturbed while looking at a movie.
Is there a bypass of this problem ?

Re: Fast forward and rewind with AVI files on Sony TV

MKV is remuxed to mpegts on Bravia and, unless yours is a 2011 model, the AVI will be transcoded to MPEG2. So perhaps you're trying to seek immediately after starting playback, and trying to move further than the transcoding/remuxing has progressed through the file. If I'm returning to watch the second part of a film I didn't finish some other day, I start the playback, press pause on the remote, then leave it for a few minutes (I guess it would be much longer for transcoding an AVI) then FFwd.

I seem to remember from PMS that it was able to estimate the duration of the transcoded stream and allow a time-based seek beyond the transcoding point, which would then cause the transcoding process to jump further into the file. As far as I know, Serviio cannot do this.
LG OLED55B8PLA | PS4 Pro | Xbox One S | Synology DS214play
Serviio 2.1 package for Synology NAS - with limited hardware transcoding support!

Since you mentioned pms-linux, the playback issues could be an ffmpeg issue under linux.

Try viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3691&p=48727#p31646 for more info if you are running ubuntu otherwise trying searching these forums for ffmpeg/linux.
