Problem with playing movies on 1.2 Serviio

Hi

I've got a problem with playing films on the latest 1.2 Serviio. I've done what You suggested with changing correct profile under the console, i got BDV-E370 so I changed it to "Sony BDP-Sx70/SMP-N100 (2010)".
I was able to wach one film ( ealier i couldn't play mp4), and after that i can't run any, When i hit play i got, working in progress sign and after a while the player freeze. I have to shut the player with the power button nohing else works. This goes with all films.
Any ideas how to fix it?

Thanks

Edit:
After restarting computer I can play one movie, but after it BD freezes again.

Edit2:
I'm very sorry i made a mistake with the BD model its: BDV-E370.

Re: Problem with playng movies on 1.2 Serviio

If your device is an US model, you have to select "Sony 2010 ...US" profile.

Could you provide information about this file ? (see signature link)

Re: Problem with playing movies on 1.2 Serviio

I've installed 1.2.

It doesn't seem to detect the profile levels correctly. Things which are > 4.1 still show up as MKV (not mpeg2ts or transcoded) and do not play. Interestingly, MOST of these played fine when merely being re-containered (but not transcoded) so I'm trying to get this behaviour again, but it doesn't pick them up anymore. It offers all of these as MKVs instead.

Edit: It may be updating the library, so I'll try again when it's done. I'm guessing my player plays > 4.1 fine when it's actually compliant with 4.1 but too high a level set in the file.

Strangely, the new BD profile is only picking up and transcoding a small number of > 4.1 but the Sony TV profile is picking them all up.

I checked the xml and it looks right, quite bizarre.

Edit: Removed "<H264LevelCheck>FILE_ATTRIBUTES</H264LevelCheck>" and it's now properly transcoding all 4.1. But of course I have edited it to just remix it, as it makes most of these playable.

Re: Problem with playing movies on 1.2 Serviio

I used that level changer to fix all my > 4.1 files. Most play back okay. Some don't seek though. The only one that didn't work at all (so far) I suspect the reference frames were just too high. It's a shame but understandable Servio can't figure out which need to be remuxed or transcoded and some don't.

I must say I am really impressed with the new Sony profile, namely native wmv, mkv and mp4 playback, with some subtitle support for mkvs (I suspect not embedded SRTs though). Great work and eagerly anticipating the bugfix 1.2.1 version. Could be my imagination but it seems to stream much more reliably over wifi (was getting predictable pauses previously during high bitrates) but I haven't done extensive testing with this.

You might want to add transcoding for mpeg-2 files with lpcm (remux to m2ts with no recompression of video and ac3 audio). I have a couple of these (mostly music).

I also wonder if the FourCC "spoofing" is possible (so that non-Xvid mpeg4 didn't need to be transcoded).

So it means it'll now check for the level value in both, H264 header and my formula based on ref frames. In beta testing we thought (some?) the players should support playing files with any h264 level value in the header. Is that not the case then?

Both of my Sony players (see sig) refuse to play them as mkvs if they are > 4.1. Most of these do play when either remuxed to m2ts (guessing it doesn't check header here) or after header changed. As said the only one that didn't have any luck with was with a high (8) reference frames, although seeking didn't work in several of them they played back linearly okay (as patched mkvs). Have kept backups of all the patched mkvs just in case.

I think the profile was by default remuxing stuff if it had a second or third audio-track in Vorbis - this makes no sense since the remux only supports one (the first) track anyway. My Sony player plays these gracefully in MKV (when you try to switch the audio track, it says it's unsupported, and you can change back to the first track).

Re: Problem with playing movies on 1.2 Serviio

zip, a correction to earlier post.

My players refuse to play MKVs with embedded "Substation Alpha" subtitles (maybe only with the embedded TTFs but I think it's all). Nothing to do with the reference frames.

Edit: I found one it would play... so confusing. But I could confirm that every one it refused to play, had "Advanced Substation Alpha" subtitles - but now I am playing one which has that type, and the subtitles work on it too... it's one of the ones that won't seek though (crashes the player if you try). This wasn't a > 4.1 encode either.

Re: Problem with playing movies on 1.2 Serviio

After much further testing:

Mkvs with ssa subtitles and no embedded fonts play and seek fine over Serviio.

Mkvs with ssa subtitles and embedded TTF fonts ("resources") either refuse to play or reboot the player if you try to FF/RW. I compared several of these and couldn't see any obvious difference between the few that didn't play at all (they weren't > 4.1) and the majority which simply crashed from seeking.

Importantly, these files play and seek fine over USB, so it doesn't appear to be the files that are incompatible with the player. So maybe some limitation of the player with DLNA or in the way Serviio handles these files.

Are these MKVs played natively?

Over USB yes, perfectly. They also play fine when remuxed to m2ts in Serviio (as you'd expect since this ignores subs). Something about those embedded fonts over DLNA it just doesn't like.

Re: Problem with playing movies on 1.2 Serviio

Behaviour unchanged in 1.2.1 - I'm guessing it may just be a limitation of these particular files over DLNA. You'd probably need a filter that checks for embedded fonts and if detected, remuxes to m2ts instead, but this functionality doesn't exist currently.

Pity, but it's less than 10% of my library.

Re: Problem with playing movies on 1.2 Serviio

I submitted a bug report to Sony, even though mkv is "officially" unsupported over DLNA. Hope we get at least one more firmware update before they're forgotten in favour of the 2013 TV/BD models.
