panasonic viera ut50 wont play AVI

This is the only thing that wont work. MP4's, mkv, ect all work as they should, just not AVI.

I tried to read all I could but have NO clue what you guys start talking about (ok tech savvy but i'm lost).

I have changed the profile and still nothing. Am i doing something wrong? I changed the profile and then stoped and restarted the server and no luck.

My pc is running win7 x64 also BTW.

Here is what the who profile looks like (all greek to me)..... --->attached<----

Help???

Re: panasonic viera ut50 wont play AVI

Hi cmberges.
Which renderer profile are you using for your TV - start Serviio Console, look at the Status Tab and find your TV in the list of renderers (it should be obvious, but if not you may have to find it by its IP address, which you can either find from your router or your TV system menu). Which profile is it presently using?

  • Once your find your TV in the list, click on it and set the Profile to "Panasonic Viera G/GT/DT/UT/VT (2011/2012)". Press Save and try your AVI files.
  • If that doesn't work, try setting the profile to "Panasonic Viera E/S/ST/VT (2011". This will transcode all AVI files. Remember to press Save again.
If all of that doesn't work, come back to us but we will need more details - firstly, is it playing at all (starts playing and then freezes)? Do you see it in your media list on the TV (and does it have an exclamation mark on it)? Can you play the file on the TV via a USB stick? We may need some detailed info on the file.

Re: panasonic viera ut50 wont play AVI

OK so here is some more info, hope it helps.

1. Opened the console and changed between both profiles
2. I can see the files on the TV but click on it and it says "cannot read file"
3. Can play them from the PS3 media server but they skip really bad
4. Put some on a maxor HDD and the onboard media server didn't show them (WTF?)
5. Serviio will play the files through the PS3 with no issues
6. Also my WD TV Live will also play the files just fine

So I'm kinda 50/50 on what the issue is....... The TV????

Re: panasonic viera ut50 wont play AVI

More questions I'm afraid:
  • Is this happening for all AVI files or a selected few?
  • wrt point 4, Panasonic's (that I have come across) will only read a USB HDD if it is formatted as FAT32. Most USB HDD's are formated as NTFS. Are you seeing any files? You may need to put it on a USB stick as they are almost always formatted as FAT32.
  • If your game can you try (I'm playing a hunch): from the DOS prompt in the folder where your file is, run "C:\Program Files\Serviio\lib\ffmpeg.exe" -i "yourfile.avi" -vcodec copy -acodec copy test.avi substituting yourfile.avi for the faulty file name. This will produce a new file test.avi. Refresh your library and test whether this plays (this file will only appear under "Folders" in your Serviio menu on the TV).
  • Can you please post a MediaInfo for a file that doesn't play - see here for details.
