MKV/MP4 Transcoding issues with TX-L37E5B

I have a number of files that fail to play on my TX-L37E5B LED TV. The message on screen is usually "Cannot read file", however they show up fine in the listing with thumbnails.

It is two file types that fail. MKV (with DTS sound, which is most of them) and MP4 (downloaded from the BBC). I have tried all of the Viera profiles, none work. I've even tried adding a new profile, but with no success ;-).

Any help would be much appreciated.

Serviio v1.3 on Ubuntu 12-04

I do not have a BBC mp4 available currently (I'll post output when I can get one). Here's output for an MKV file.
ffmpeg output:

Re: MKV/MP4 Transcoding issues with TX-L37E5B

Think I have it solved.

Ubuntu uses an old version of FFmpeg. Apparently they prefer avconv instead. Upgrading to the version from ppa:jon-severinsson/ffmpeg solves the play problem, but films with an aspect ratio of 2.35:1 end up as 1.78:1.
