server not found

hi,
i have a panasonic TX-P50G30B tv.
my problem is sometimes when i go to
use the media server the tv says server not found.
other times when i use serviio it is o.k.
serviio server is on and running on computer.

in the serviio status bar the profile colour of the
dot is green.
hope someone can help.

I have experienced the same problem with my Panasonic TX-L42ET5...it is a random problem, and now it's working. I noticed that sometime it is not enough to restart serviio and also the pc, but after restarting of the router it starts working (not always). Could be a networking problem?

The biggest culprit is that your PC running Serviio goes to sleep at some stage and Serviio does not recover fully. This is a known issue - read this post and the workaround from jammoblammo: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=8393#p67123

If its not sleep related then it could be one of the following:

• Ensure Multicast and UPNP are enabled on your router (and disable IPV6 multicast if applicable) - see this post: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10289
• Set the Serviio service to be dependant on SSDP Discovery - see this post: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10410. This is more for when Serviio fails to start after a PC restart, but may assist here.

I sometimes get a delay before the server is found - in these cases my Pana will show "Media Server not found" and after a short while either find Serviio or time out. If it times out and I press the Media Server button again, Serviio is there. Its a minor issue (its less than 10 seconds delay), and not Serviio specific (does the same for other media servers), so I haven't bothered with it - Panasonics are good TV's, but DLNA is not their strong suit.

ps. I havent done any of the above. For me, since version 1.2.1, it always detects (albeit with a small delay sometimes).

In my case it's not a sleeping mode problem (disabled), and I don't have problem with serviio after the restart of the pc, as serviio services start but my PANA doesn't find it, also if I wait minutes or restart the TV.
Probably is something related to the router and access point, so I will take a look at the post you have suggested for multicast and UPNP.

it's your smart phone with wifi on i bet, If I or my wife have our wifi on in the home and i try to watch something on the tv with servio it looses the connection after a minute or so and sometimes it won't start at all, if i turn off the wifi on the phones i have uninterupted tv for the night.

I had this problem initially. I set static IP address on the TV and the Serviio computer. Now the problem has never come back. I am using wired connection for both these devices and I think that helps restoring the connectivity when things stop working.

While watching a movie, I have observed that suddenly the movie stops after 10-15 minutes. Now I know it is because my Serviio desktop computer goes to sleep. I have to go and physically wake up the computer and within 2-3 seconds the movie resumes from where it stopped. That is really a very nice thing to note.

@spadgett & danylo1974: Version 1.3 is out now that includes this dependency. It also includes some changes that should improve these connectivity related issues.

I too have issues with Panasonic ET5a WiFi TV and trying to obtain Media Server connectivity.

WiFi works as I can see internet TV catchup stations and watch them fine.

Can cable the device to the PC and see Media Server.

Something is not letting me in WIFI

I am using CISCO DPQ3925 cable Modem and Router with uPnP enabled
Have manual IP address set for TV

I spent the day yesterday with Optus trying to ascertain if it was the router.
It is supposed to uPnP, though someone hinted that optus "tweak/remove" this capability for home router use after they get it from CISCO, before they send it on... not sure it that's true, but one optus guy has had 3 cases with that router and a Panny TV



The PC (Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit)
Cant see Media server from TV

Windows media sharing is on
Have F secure Virus software product Version 1.71.340.0
Got them to enable TCP 8895 and UDP1900 ports in firewall as per Serviio wesite, no luck with seeing media serva from TV

As a last didtch attemp we turned F Secure Virus software off, and windows firewall off ( windows defender is not running), still couldn't see media server, so to me this indicates that they are not blocking the TV.

In Serviio console 1.3.1 only see devices that are hardwired to the modem and router.

The Wifi devices are not seen (should we see other devices like other wifi computers and iphones in Serviio)

Anyone got any hints? Come across these issues before??

Seems your router does not pass multicast traffic between wired and wireless clients by default. If you google "CISCO DPQ3925 multicast to wireless" you get some reading matter on the subject. See: https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2060025 and http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-re ... 005215&#r4 for example.

There is probably a software switch to enable the functionality. I had a quick look but without your router it's difficult to know what applies/does not apply. Look at your IGMP Proxy

I have a Vizio WiFi TV and noticed that the WiFi connection would go to "sleep". It has wireless N and the access point is about 15 feet away. Really annoying so to overcome this I ran a cat5 line to the TV and now it works all the time.
