Panasonic Viera 2013 / TX- L42ET60E

Hi,

just recently bought LED 3D TV Panasonic TX- L42ET60E and started using few DLNA servers (twonky and Serviio) mostly.
What I like about serviio is the size of subtitle in comparison to twonky, but software itself as it seems have a few issies as well.
Some of those issues might not be software itself but some other 3rd party codec, plugin, filter or settings I am not aware of.
Since this TV is quite new series from Panasonic, I am offering my help for testing purposes and maybe once in the future it may result in creating of a new profile for Panasonic Viera 2013 series TVs.

Issues noticed so far are:
1. .srt subtitles working but without ability to set them on or off trough TV set options, or ability to set character code page. In other words subtitle option is not accessible on TV and characters are sometimes displayed in right and sometimes in wrong character code page. Twonky supports subtitle options on TV set, which means to turn them on or off, and to change character code settings. I use CP-1250 code page settings.

2. if PC was sent to "sleep", and once it is "awake" again, video played by serviio is laggy and unusable (yes I have wired connection, restarted serviio service, stopped and started serviio server and saved settings, have enough horse power to run serviio server - Intel Core™ i3-2120, and 16GB of RAM, and it won't help).

3. 3D video can be played, but I didn't figured out how to play 3D subtitles yet. I tried 3DSubtitler, but it seems that serviio doesn't support image subtitles. is there another way?

4. I confirm there is a problem with fast forward, and time is not interpreted correctly by TV set sometimes .

Hope I posted this in right section and according to accepted way of posting topic.
I am attaching sink file, in case it is needed and appreciate your time and effort to build, support and maintain this great piece of software.

Regards,

Tiro

What are your subtitles settings? Do you have hardsubs enabled? If yes, disable it - it should give you the option to turn them on/off on the TV.

Re: Panasonic Viera 2013 / TX- L42ET60E

Thanks for reply.

Enable burn-in subtitles check-box is set checked and used option "only when required", and with such a settings I have large font subtitles.
I learned that saving .srt subtitle file in UTF-8 encoding character page, with above options produces best result.
That means my local country characters are shown and subtitle characters are large enough to read them.

If I turn off burn-in-subtitles check-box, TV set have options to change character code page, and to set subtitles to on or off.

Ok, that is expected. Also with this setting you are not transcoding the file and lose quality, so I'd use that if possible.

I turned on transcoding but not sure is there any improvement in quality of view (mp4 1280x720 pixels video file). Now it seems to be that fast forward is working much better then before.
I noticed large file in win-temp directory, so I guess that is new file being transcoded and played on TV set.
