Panasonic DMP-BD87P-K does not recognize AVI files

Serviio 1.2.1 has no specs for this new BluRay player, so it comes up using the Generic DLNA profile. It plays MKV and MPG files, but has no clue about AVI files. AVI files do not show up as available media. Not sure what to do to make that happen, so I'm looking for a bit of wizardry here.

I'm technical but not familiar with any tools that may be available, so any recommendations or pointers will hopefully take that into account. THANKS!

Re: Panasonic DMP-BD87P-K does not recognize AVI files

Assign one of the Panasonic Viera profiles in Serviio console. Start with the 2011/12 profile, then try 2010 and then 2011 (2011 last as it transcodes all AVI).

Strange that this device handles MKV's but not AVI's. May need to create a custom profile (Panasonic's seem to like the mime type changed for AVI's).

Re: Panasonic DMP-BD87P-K does not recognize AVI files

I will write "too much" here in case someone else has the same issue. First, I found that I had the Serviio version just prior to 1.2.1, which was likely 1.2.0 as it was downloaded recently. I tried all three Panasonic Viera profiles (2010, 2011, 2011/2012 in that order) with no luck. After profile changes, I started and stopped the server. The first two yielded no change. After changing to the newest profile, my bluray player would not show a Serviio connection, even though the console and Windows service were both started...I am relying on Windows to give me accurate status there.

I rebooted my Windows box, and saw that an upgrade (1.2.1) was available, so I downloaded and installed it. After the reboot, Serviio showed as a connection into my bluray player. The Viera 2010 profile did not show the AVI files. I changed to the 2011 profile, and the AVI files are now there!!! I watched one of them, and aspect ratio was correct, no choppy motion, and audio was there. After playing, the menu of available videos still showed the AVIs (I'm not a trusting soul).

So the bottom line is that an upgrade to Serviio 1.2.1 AND the Panasonic Viera 2011 profile did the trick. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
