Re: Iphone/Ipod/Ipad profile
So the better NAS devices should be able to do this. The lower powered ARM ones won't.
Serviio 2.1 package for Synology NAS - with limited hardware transcoding support!

Video formats supported:
- H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
- MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
- Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
Attributes:
targetContainer - compulsory; name of container to transcode into; possible values: asf, mpeg (MPEG2PS), mpegts (MPEG2TS)
targetVCodec - optional; name of video codec to transcode into or omit this attribute to keep the video stream as it is; possible values: mpeg2video (MPEG2), wmv2 (WMV9)

Can Serviio not transcode to H264/MP4?
http://www.serviio.org/index.php?option ... icle&id=24Attributes:
targetContainer - compulsory; name of container to transcode into; possible values: asf, mpeg (MPEG2PS), mpegts (MPEG2TS)

What can I transcode to that will play on the iPod please?
grolschie wrote:Thanks for that info. I guess that's the end of it for now. Well, as far as transcoding on the fly goes.
grolschie wrote:Yes, thanks for that. I guess that also means youtube is out of the question via DLNA to the iPod Touch too.
Redstars wrote:If Serviio can only transcode H.264 into m2ts/ts containers would it be possible to include a profile that transcodes the video within the profile of the iPad 2 (taking into account it's H.264 level and bitrate support) even if your using another player I find many of the third party media players with extra codecs on the app store have very poor performance even more so when trying to play over wireless.
Redstars wrote:Or would it be possible if there was a DLNA client on the app store which supported the TS container and was able to hand off video to the built in Quicktime player as a workaround. I know the Airplayer app has a toggle to enable Quicktime player but it just balks at whatever you try to play with it enabled (starts then jumps back to player UI).
patters wrote:Apple prevent 3rd party app access to their hardware video decode API. Apparently XBMC can do this, but you need to jailbreak your device to get it on there (XBMC is not allowed on the App Store). I don't like to do that as I've always found my iPhone 2G and 3Gs to be unstable once they're jailbroken and you inevitably end up loosing all your app saves etc when you reinstall. Go to update a package on Cydia and boom your phone won't boot and needs a DFU restore - that kind of thing. I'll leave that kind of tinkering to the Android handset users
zadoro wrote:Has anyone tried using Serviio with the iPhone app iMediaControl (its not the Microsoft iMediaControl)? Its free and simple. Doesn't look like its been mentioned yet here, but I haven't been successful. I don't know too much about programming though. Here is their website in case it helps: http://www.sitecom.com/mobile/apple/imediacontrol/
