Sorting Media by Date/Name

I just installed Serviio 1.1 Server on my QNAP NAS. I am amazed out how well it works and I can finally stream my music over 3/4G to my phone. I use ServiGO as the client and today I wanted to located a new podcast. I can't find a way to sort the files by date. Is this possible? I don't see any settings that allow me to do so in either the server or the client.
Re: Sorting Media by Date/Name
No, I could add an option to sort the current folder by date, but I don't think that would be much use. Was this a podcast that you had just added? Maybe a Last Added category might help?
Re: Sorting Media by Date/Name
Thanks for the reply. I have a bunch of photos and I wanted to sort from the newest to the oldest because I didn't know exactly what the name of the files were. They were sorted alphabetically I believe so that dates were pretty randomized.

It's not to the server client (Serviio) to sort files, this is the renderer that choose how to represent files.
Some renderers support this feature, probably your Phone not.

Are the photos all in the same folder, or are they in sub folders? If they are in the same folder then I can probably do something about it.
Re: Sorting Media by Date/Name
Yes. I have them arranged in folders and those having sub folders. On average each sub folder has 20-30 photos and maybe some videos. Why does.the folder organization make a difference..just curious...
Thanks for looking into this.

Because Serviio provides ServiiGo with date information for files, but not folders. So I could add an option to sort files in a folder by date, but I couldn't add an option to sort a folder full of folders by date. If you want the first (finding a the newest files when you know the folder name), I'll look at adding it for the next version, if you want the second (finding the folder that contains the newest files), then it won't be possible until the server is changed as well.
Re: Sorting Media by Date/Name
Aha. I see what.you mean. Sorting the files within a folder would be fine I think.
Thanks Will!

Re: Sorting Media by Date/Name
OK, i'll see if I can get it in for the next version which will be out around the same time as Serviio 1.3, although there are a lot of things on the todo list so it may be the one after.
Out of interest, was the Month category not good enough for finding recent files?

Re: Sorting Media by Date/Name
I don't think I even tried the month feature. My access to Sergiio has been down when accessing from ServiGo because i am running 1.1. I am going to he upgrading tonight to 1.2. ServiGo told me that my version was too old, ServiDroid continued to work beautifully though. Anyway, let me give the Month thing a try. Maybe that's all I need?
Re: Sorting Media by Date/Name
Yeah ServiiDroid works all the way back to 0.6 (although I haven't tested that for at least a year and don't plan on doing so), and although it is a pain to maintain, it OK because i'm just presenting a list of options to the user and can selectively show things mainly based on if the server includes them in the response/some if version is > X checks.
ServiiGo is different, in order to use some of the new features which I've requested be added to Serviio, I ended up having to write elaborate hacks to provide similar functionaility on the older versions, and as less than 10% of users were on 1.1 I decided it was time to drop support. When 1.3 comes out, I should still be able to support 1.2 for a while, although the app won't look as good on 1.2 as it does currently as I'm adjusting the layouts to work with the higher resolution thumbnails that 1.3 is brining. 1.3 will also have search and folder thumbnails to name just a few new features so I hope most users will upgrade pretty quickly.

Re: Sorting Media by Date/Name
Thanks for that info. Wish me luck in getting 1.2 installed. There is a qpkg i used last.night talthough the server works i can't get the web interface doen't appear to come up. Quite possibly it is my user error. Christian may have released a.non-beta pkg but i haven't found it yet. Worse case is that i have to manually install the bits but i'll do what i have to.

Re: Sorting Media by Date/Name
Well, this is frustrating....
I have been scouring the forums all night and I've yet to find a viable way to fix my problem. I know this is off-topic from what we were discussing but here is my problem. When I try to access Serviio I get "You don't have permission to access /serviio on this server."
I installed the QPKG that Christian put together. It was 1.2.1_b11. That seems to be the latest one I can find.
Now, to get around this (or at least until a fixed QPKG is released) the workaround is by running a bunch of scripts. I don't mind doing that IF I knew Linux. There is one long post that talks about running a bunch of scripts which alledgedly fixes several problems (on being the issue with WebUI). Which brings me (finally) to your question. I have no idea how to find which version of WebUI i am using. It's probably simple to do, but I don't know how!
If I had a step-by-step "Linux for Dummies" guide I could probably pull it off, but the majority of posts I find are for people who apparently are quite well versed in running scripts, compiling stuff etc. Me? Not so much.
Sorry about the rant but I'm kind of frustrated at this point. The main reason I use Serviio is because it worked. I have tried just about all of them and Serviio was the ONE that actually worked, fast and easy to set up. Especially with ServioGo as the client. I thought my search was over. Really the ONLY reason I got it was to be able to access my media on my cell phone. I was quite happy. Then things went pear-shaped.
Any ideas?

Re: Sorting Media by Date/Name
Start a new thread in the NAS section or post in the NAS specific package thread (as otherwise those who use your NAS are unlikely to notice, but link to it from here so that I can have a look) and include what you did, information about file permisions (e.g. ls -l /opt/serviio (or wherever serviio is installed)), and if its there the serviio log. Other questions would be do you get that error when visiting the WebUI in your browser? If so, does ServiiDroid work at the moment?
If you PM me I can send you an older version of ServiiGo.

Do you want this for ServiiGo, or are you looking for it for Serviio for use on DLNA clients + MediaBrowser etc.. (This request was for ServiiGo, but your asking about Serviio)?
I had actually forgetten about this, so it didn't make it into 3.0, i'm making an issue now though so that I rememeber.

Re: Sorting Media by Date/Name
What TV do you have? It will be up to the TV as to whether it can sort content by date/title.
ServiiGo is seperate android app used to access Serviio remotely, and the OP wanted me to add sort functionallity to ServiiGo. So anything I add to ServiiGo is no use to people who access Serviio using their TV's etc...
