Serviio not showing up in roku media player

have 2 roku's an have used them to play from serviio for years.
in the last week, both roku players have stopped showing serviio.

Dont know if it might be related to Microsoft patching (run from 20016 server)

Network hasn't changed, everything still on the same /24 subnet.

troubleshooting tried:
Was running 1.9, upgraded to 2.0, didn't help
changed 'bound IP' from auto-detect to specific NIC, and back. (saved and restarted)
Renamed install directory to serviio-old and re-installed from scratch, STILL don't show.

Suggestions ?

Re: Serviio not showing up in roku media player

It sounds like the Windows firewall is blocking access to Serviio. Often MS updates will reset the firewall to default settings, but your Serviio reinstall should have opened them back up. Out of curiosity, what Roku players do you have, and what profile are you using? For newer (2016+) Roku players there are better profiles to use than the default, but you have to select them manually.

It might help to see your Serviio log to ensure it's starting up correctly.

Re: Serviio not showing up in roku media player

I've not setup debug logging, but everything looks fine from the log. if you think debug would show anything, I can sure give it a shot, but it looks bound to the correct adapter.

firewall is disabled, (all 3, domain, private and public)

far as what profile, -- that took some effort... really wish the profiles would get updated.

Re: Serviio not showing up in roku media player

I run my firewall off as well. But you still didn't tell me what Roku player you have (model number, not just its name) and what profile is selected in the Serviio console for your player. Also, the log snippet you posted doesn't show the network interface connection loading, so can't see if there's something there.

As far as the Roku profiles, I did update all of them for Serviio 2.0. They now all use HLS transcoding to allow for trick play functionality, with the exception of VC-1 video. For some reason those don't like HLS.

And if I do say so myself I've worked very hard to ensure any issues reported with the profiles have been addressed with newer versions. I believe the last 3 or 4 Serviio releases have all had some updates to the Roku profiles. The only thing I haven't been able to do is to get them to assign themselves correctly when they first are seen by Serviio. All Roku devices (players and TVs) get the default Roku profile, which transcodes far more then necessary for the latest models.

Re: Serviio not showing up in roku media player

the roku details were in the top post of the linked thread, but here ...

Roku Streaming Stick 3800R
System info shows:
Model - 3800X
software ver 9.0.0 * build 4142-55
* Both devices share these details.
it's not just my Roku's it also isn't showing up on my other 2 smart TV's

The intent was not to blame or complain about the profiles, only to show my frustration. I wouldn't have wasted my time trying to help fix it in the other thread if I didn't understand what it takes to make something like this work.
Same with what I'm about to say... Since Serviio hasn't worked for 2 weeks, I've loaded UMS on the same box, and it seems to be able to handle the audio, and it's showing up on all my devices.

Re: Serviio not showing up in roku media player

I can understand the frustration. Sorry we couldn't get it figured out, but glad you found a solution. :D Usually the problem you describe is caused by the Windows firewall, or perhaps a 3rd party anti-virus product. Hard to trouble-shoot from a distance, unfortunately. :(

Several things I don't like about UMS either, would still really like to know why it's not working.

Re: Serviio not showing up in roku media player

I do have to ask an obvious question. You don't have anything complicated or out of the ordinary on your network do you? Such as a VLAN, different subnets, multiple routers? I know you mentioned that in the original post. Just had to ask again.

I also just noticed you mentioned it was on a Windows Server OS, rather than Windows 7 or 10. There has been other reports in the past with issues using the server OS for some reason. It does sound like MS might have released an update that is now blocking UPnP access via something other than the firewall. Especially since it's not just the Roku players not seeing the install. Just out of curiosity, do you have a different computer on the network that you could throw a temporary Serviio install on and see if it appears? If it does, then we've isolated it to the server OS. And I'm also assuming there hasn't been a firmware update on your network router that might have turned off UPnP support.

Re: Serviio not showing up in roku media player

to your original question (you seemed to answer) no -- everything is on a single /24 network, with a router to the internet. not trying to access serviio from the internet, this is all local.
UPNP IS off on the router, always has been (remember this has been up using serviio for YEARS) -- that setting is only for INTERNET UPNP, has nothing with the /24 network where the server & clients are.

UMS worked from the same box, so seems weird that serviio would have issues, when UMS don't.

but for giggles (and other things I'll not mention) I can install serviio on a win10 box, just to see.

Re: Serviio not showing up in roku media player

Yeah, sorry for asking what you already answered.

Both of my Serviio computers are Windows 10, and I have Serviio installed at my daughter's and sister-in-law's homes, both again on Windows 10. I haven't had a home server running any Windows server OS in some time, and never did have Serviio installed on them, so I'm only thinking of another user's experience with Windows Server (don't recall what version that was). Something in the server OS was blocking Serviio from talking to the network, but can't remember the details to finally resolve the issue.
