Server Name?

I have the following in my profiles.xml:

<FriendlyName>Serviio myServerName</FriendlyName>

However, when viewed by a DLNA server on my TV, it displays the name as localhost.

This is on a Linux machine, running the most recent serviio release. If I access a different serviio server running under Windows from my TV, the name is what I expect.

Not a big deal, but any suggestions?

Never seen that before. I have two different servers on my network (one for testing) and I have modified the default name on both of them, and the new names have always stuck. Just out of curiosity, do a search of the profiles file for the word localhost and see if it's somewhere else in the file and being picked up. I just checked mine and it's not found, so yours shouldn't find it either.

localhost is recognized by all operating systems as its own internal network address, which in IPv4 is 127.0.0.1 and is not routable over the local network. Localhost is useless for any other device on a network, as it would only look at itself using that network name.

Now, where is Serviio getting that name from? I have no idea. Does every device on your network show Serviio that way, or is it only specific devices? Or do you have any other DLNA player devices on your network? In my years of playing with Serviio, including on Linux computers, I have never encountered Serviio being identified with any name other than the one specified by the profiles file.

Yes, localhost is the name all hosts know themselves by. The issue here is why is serviio reporting localhost instead of the name I gave in profiles.xml.

"localhost" is not being used by the DNLA client to look at serviio. The DLNA client is able to connect to the appropriate serviio host. Both DLNA clients I tried see locahost as the name of the serviio server.

Yes, I have other DLNA servers and clients on my network. None of them exhibit this same behavior.

But does your other DLNA clients all indicate localhost for the Serviio server name? If that's the case, this I suspect something amiss in your Serviio installation. I have no clue where it's getting that name from, but of course I'm not the Serviio developer. That is Zip, and if there's something specific with Serviio itself causing this only he can resolve it.

Copy that. I don't have any Linux boxes to test with at this time. Hopefully Zip will see this thread and look into it.
