Cannot playback video on Sharp Aquos TV (it freeses)

Whenever I try to play a video file on the Aquos TV the video freezes on the very first frame and the stream progress bar keeps going but no actual streaming or rendering takes place and yes Serviio is using the Aquos profile.

I have Servio installed on my 64 bit Windows 7 Toshiba Laptop

Not familiar with the TV, but according to the profile should play AVI's natively. Does the TV have a USB port - if so, can the file be played via that port?

If it is what I think it is, the answer to the above will be that it still freezes via USB port. If so, you can fix the file by repacking the file. Run from a cmd prompt in the same folder as your media file:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Serviio\lib\ffmpeg.exe" -i srcfile.avi -vcodec copy -acodec copy test.avi

changing srcfile.avi for the name of your file. This will create a new file test.avi. See if that then works.

ps. you could have picked a different file name . Edit post to remove name please, its not required to assist problem resolution.

so this TVs use an internal video player for the files don't they? The technicians at Sharp told me that all was done by the machine doing the streaming but that made little to no sense. If it has an internal player then the problem is indeed their player and not Serviio or Windows Media for that matter. I wish they would install VLC in their TV sets as that plays just about anything.

Yes, TV's have internal decoders that play your video files. Each TV will support a number of different flavors of video and audio - which flavors are supported depends on how old your TV is (newer TV's tend to support more and newer flavors), how much effort the manufacturer has put into this aspect of their TV (some are better than others) and of course, cost (you get what you pay for). Unlike software players like VLC, TV's are harder to update when new flavors of video/audio are released (harder is probably the wrong word - there's just no money in doing so, so you rarely get updates for most TVs).

What Serviio does is to stream your video (ie. transport it from your computer to your TV) and if necessary, convert it to a flavour that your TV understands. I think this conversion is what the technician was referring to, however in your case it (probably) shouldn't be necessary for this file type. I think this file may be corrupt - hence test it via the TV's USB input if possible, or try fixing the file using the ffmpeg command. Let us know how that goes.
