no, the issue is not resolved, what you are seeing is the DLNA server windows serviio not activate the homegroup in windows 8, but I can not see my shared files in serviio, I only see the server folder windows, eventhough it and checked the box that mounts serviio server in the homegroup.

Where are stored your shared files, in local (C: D:) or remote (\\Share) ?
And do you try this ?
- In metro search "cmd" to launch a windows terminal execute "services.msc", rigth click "properties" on serviio service, connection tab, set the account with ILLICO/admin value, I have to do this to have access to my remote shared network disk.

What do you mean "checked the box that mounts serviio under homegroup"? Serviio shouldn't be a share itself within the HomeGroup, I assume you mean the drive or directory for the content Serviio is intended to share?
Serviio is working 100% for me now. I see all my content, it plays every file format, etc. etc.
Ensure that under Advanced Sharing settings, you have "Allow Windows to manage homegroup connections (recommended)" selected under "Private Network" and that your network is set to Private, through the networking control center.
Also in Advanced Sharing Settings; Turn on file and printer sharing is also enabled, and Turn on network discovery and select Turn on automatic setup of network connected devices.
In homegroup settings, click on the "Allow all devices on this network such as TVs and game consoles to play my shared content". Make sure your device isn't blocked through this screen.
These are the items I can think that might be causing you an issue. This doesn't appear to be a problem with Serviio itself, but a change within Windows 8 in the way it handles sharing. The fact that Plex worked and Serviio didn't until homegroup was enabled makes me suspect it's because Serviio is a Java app, and I think Plex is native.
Re: problems windows 8 and serviio
I did all of the above, my shared files are on the D and G, I guess no one noticed that the "Allow all the network devices, such as televisions and video game consoles, reproduscan my media", this Unmarked serviio server, then check the box to enable and disable the other server is windows server, then only get to see the windows server, I see riding serviio server, leave unchecked the 2 boxes but I still see windows server, no matter how you configure always see the DLNA server for Windows.
Re: problems windows 8 and serviio
I also can't get Serviio Pro 1.0.1 hosted on Windows 8 to show up on the network (all other DLNA servers show up fine) even though I have the following settings under Network and Sharing Center -> Advanced Sharing Settings
Private
Guest or Public
All Networks
Also checked firewall settings, and made sure both the Serviio service and console had private/public access. Tried re-installing Java and Serviio, but no luck. Serviidroid connects to Serviio fine though. Will continue to hack around Windows 8 to see if I can get Serviio to show up. Must be some Windows 8 nuance I've missed somewhere, as things were working great under Windows 7.

- Selected Turn off Public folder sharing
- Under Media Streaming (Choose media steaming options...) made sure my devices are not blocked
- Selected Use 128-bit encryption

Re: problems windows 8 and serviio
Check the firewall. Does it have port 8895 open (or ServiioService.exe has acess)?

Re: problems windows 8 and serviio
Checked the firewall settings, and both TCP/UDP have all ports open for ServiioService.exe (still no go). Going to try and uninstall Serviio and Java, delete all existing program directories, clear all firewall settings and then reinstall to see if this helps.
Re: problems windows 8 and serviio
It appears I was incorrect about binding Serviio to the server's IP not mattering. I removed this setting, and it worked fine for about a day. I rebooted my server, and lo and behold, Serviio was not available on my network. I went back through all previous settings, toggled, changed and otherwise troubleshoot, with no luck.
I finally just bound Serviio (through the console) to the server's IP address, and it shows on the network again without issue.

Re: problems windows 8 and serviio
Open a command prompt (windows key -> metro -> type "cmd" -> enter key) and in the command prompt, type "ipconfig" this will display your machine's IP address. Enter this IP in the "Network Settings -> Bound IP Address" field in the Serviio Console, restart the service and the server (stop server/start server in Server Status in console).
If this setting is necessary going forward, it would probably be a good idea to set the machine on which serviio is running to a static IP on your network, so you don't have to go through resetting this every time the IP changes under a DHCP environment.

Re: problems windows 8 and serviio
That was it! As heathen462 said, had to add my IP to the Bound IP address field in the Serviio Console and restart both the server under Server Status in the Serviio Console and the Serviio service in the Services panel. Tested and now Serviio shows up on all my devices. My IP is already added as a static IP, so hopefully smooth sailing from here on out. Thanks very much all, and in particular heathen462 for the final fix!
P.S. Glad I checked the forum once more before doing a complete reinstall

Re: problems windows 8 and serviio
Sweet! Glad I could help!
I'm wondering if this is the only setting that matters, and Homegroup doesn't need to be enabled after all. I don't think I'm going to mess with it, I'm just happy to have it working again!

Re: problems windows 8 and serviio
Same here - not touching anything since it's all working nicely now.
Re: problems windows 8 and serviio
I also did what I said heathen 462 and worked I see riding serviio server actually can disable the homegroup to only see serviio server.
Serviio Problem Solved - at least for me... :-)
I recently upgraded to version 1.0.1 pro and started having intermittent connections with Serviio... Initially it worked fine and then when I changed routers, not more connections. My devices could see the serviio on my home server, but could not connect. I would get a message saying telling me to wait while the server started up, but after about a minute or so, failure and no connection.
I tried reverting back to verion 0.6 and previous, but that did not fix the problem.
I then upgraded my java version, but still no connection - the devices (sony blu-ray player and sony n100 smp, even my xbox) would not connect.
I looked at the list of devices on the serviio console and verified that their IP address was correct...
I also looked to see if the profile being used was correct and everything was the same as before the upgrade.
Interestingly, I could see and access Serviio on my smart phone using serviio droid...
I then tried to enter the bound IP address ( my home server) and this still did not fix the issue.
I then thought that the issue must be with my router and/or my upnp setup. But since the router that I upgraded to was from the same manufacturer as the previous and I did not have any unusual settings when I was setting it up, I did not believe that was the issue. I still went and check my upnp settings and those appear to be the same as before...
I must mention that I have a combination of wired connections to router and wireless - my xbox and one blu-ray player was connected via ethernet and the 2 others, plus the sony n100 smp were wireless...
I finally decided to go back to the old router, still no Serviio connection, even though each device had an greyed out icon for Serviio showing on screen.
Needless to say, i was at my wits ends and I started calling the developer all kinds of names under my breath... after all the free version worked just fine, it was only after the paid upgrade that I started having issues.
I tried all the above over a period of about a week or so...
I finally had an epiphany and tried something that I was sure would not work, but to my surprise this last change did the trick... I am now streaming from all devices, even a couple tablets and smart phones have joined in the action and are streaming just as well!!
My eventual solution - (sorry for making you all read the above before coming to this....)
I opened the Serviio console and on the first tab (The Status tab) I did the following:
1. Stop the service
2. Removed all the devices that were listed in the Renderer profile list - when I was through, there were no devices listed.
3. I left the bound IP address - that made sense to me to not change that
4. I started the Serviio service again using the buttons on the console
5. I am not sure if this part is necessary, but I also then logged off my homeserver and restarted it...
6. While the server was restarting, I went to all the devices that I used to stream through and turned them all on
7. When my homeserver came back up again with the Serviio service running, I opened the console and the renderer profiles listing was still blank...
8. I went to the first device, my blu ray player and turned it on... to my surprise the Servii icon was displaying bright and yellow and I was able to connect and stream as before...
9. I went back to have a look at the serviio console, and slowly but surely every one of the devices that I have removed were starting to slowly reappear one by one by themselves as the service connected and recognized them.
I went to each device to see if I could stream again, and I was in pure euphoric joy... I was back in the streaming business...!!!
I must mention that when I had upgraded to Serviio Pro, I had manually entered the Rendering profiles and their specific IP addresses....
I do not remember if I had done that with version 0.6...
The IP addresses that now showed, did match the originals, the only difference is that I did not enter them manually this time, I let the serviio service do it, and now everything is working fine...!!
I hope that this helps someone...

Re: problems windows 8 and serviio
I had the same problem when I installed Java 7.10 so I uninstalled Serviio and Java, re-installed Serviio and it said it couldn't find Java 6 so replied yes to install and all works well now.
btw: Java version downloaded and installed by Serviio is Java 7.5.
