First of all - thank you to everyone trying to help.
OK: I want to briefly explain my setup before we go further.
Movie files are stored in individual folders along with cover jpg and info (this is for another device I use). Each folder is named the title of the movie stored in it. These folders reside in a folder named "Movie" which resides in a folder "Videos" along with "TV Shows," "Family Videos," and a couple of others. The Videos folder is in a folder called "Media" along with "Shared" which contains "Music" and "Pictures" folders. Lots of subfolders, but not an unusual setup for 6TB of stuff.
Up until recently this has worked fine for the serviio.
Using my LG TV, I see the serviio server and all the files in what I suppose is the standard way - folder names are displayed and a click on the remote reveals the movie file for playing. If I select "Folders" and then Videos, Movie, etc. I do not see all the movies - just the ones further down the alphabet from the beginning letters "Mi...". So Mission Impossible to Zombieland is there, but Alien to Manchurian Candidate is not. If I use the "Movies" option when viewing the files, all the movies (including the ones missing under Folders view) are there, but they are mixed in with all the TV shows, family videos, music videos, etc. Way too much data to sort through and defeats the purpose of using subfolders in the first place.
As far as my Serviio setup, it's a rather out-of-the-box installation. I use either ssh in a terminal or serviio-web to access it. I have the three folder - /media/videos, /media/shared/music, and /media/shared/pictures in the Library and the checkbox for each specific file type is selected. I.e. videos has "Share Video Files" ticked along with the "Retrieve Descriptive Metadata" and "Scan for file additions..." boxes and access is set at "Full." It really just worked when I installed it so I haven't messed with it much.
When viewing the contents of /opt/serviio-1.0.1/library/db/seg0 the files are all dated 10/23/12 (the installation date) but the files under db/log are current dates. I did find some updates in the sixth log file.
I'll keep messing with it. I'l re-name a couple of the missing movies and see if they appear on the tv or log files.
