Only second half of library in list?

First of all, very happily using serviio for a year or so now without many issues on a home built Ubuntu 12.04 server and LG 32LD550 TV.

Very recently - like the last couple of weeks, I noticed my Movie folder list isn't complete. It starts at the letter "M" and runs to the end of the alphabet. The TV Shows folder is normal and both seem to update when I add new stuff, just no movies with titles A-L. All the movies and TV Shows are stored in the same manner - a subfolder titled same as the movie holds movie file along with some jpg's and other stuff.

Did I click a setting somewhere accidentally?

The server is headless and I access it remotely via an SSH terminal or using ServiioWeb . The logs don't show anything regarding the Movie folders.

As the TV is the only device using Serviio, it might be helpful if someone could point me at the location of the file that stores the file lists. This might serve to verify it's an issue with Serviio and not the LG's software.

Re: Only second half of library in list?

It is possible that it was caused by the problem at www.themoviedb.org, which is where Serviio gets the metadata. They had a problem that caused Serviio to not retrieve any metadata, and I found in my system that the newly added videos were not being listed. They appear to have fixed the issue last night, although I am still having an issue with an occasional video. It can't find Wizard of Oz? Really?

Anyway, I had to force a refresh of the missing titles by making some sort of change to the file name (such as adding a space somewhere). This caused Serviio to remove the bad entry from its DB and search for fresh information. My missing titles are now showing back up.

Not positive if this was your issue, as I didn't have any existing video listings vanish, only the new additions.

Re: Only second half of library in list?

I had existing movies disappear. If the bug at tmdb (now resolved) is the issue, I believe you should be able to get your movies back by pressing the "Rescan video metadata" button on the "metadata" tab in Serviio Console.

Re: Only second half of library in list?

I tried the "Rescan..." but the movie list hasn't changed. To be more precise, it's missing the first 168 folders/movies from the list. I even rebooted the server last night after the metadata rescan.

Is it possible/safe to delete the serviio data files and make it start from scratch? Where do I go to view, edit or delete that data?

Re: Only second half of library in list?

Try renaming one of the files slightly as suggested above. Rescan and check the log to see if its added. Also check that you haven't accidentally switched Retrieve Metadata off against the shared folder.

Do the movies appear under Folders rather than Movies?

Re: Only second half of library in list?

First of all - thank you to everyone trying to help.

OK: I want to briefly explain my setup before we go further.

Movie files are stored in individual folders along with cover jpg and info (this is for another device I use). Each folder is named the title of the movie stored in it. These folders reside in a folder named "Movie" which resides in a folder "Videos" along with "TV Shows," "Family Videos," and a couple of others. The Videos folder is in a folder called "Media" along with "Shared" which contains "Music" and "Pictures" folders. Lots of subfolders, but not an unusual setup for 6TB of stuff.

Up until recently this has worked fine for the serviio.

Using my LG TV, I see the serviio server and all the files in what I suppose is the standard way - folder names are displayed and a click on the remote reveals the movie file for playing. If I select "Folders" and then Videos, Movie, etc. I do not see all the movies - just the ones further down the alphabet from the beginning letters "Mi...". So Mission Impossible to Zombieland is there, but Alien to Manchurian Candidate is not. If I use the "Movies" option when viewing the files, all the movies (including the ones missing under Folders view) are there, but they are mixed in with all the TV shows, family videos, music videos, etc. Way too much data to sort through and defeats the purpose of using subfolders in the first place.

As far as my Serviio setup, it's a rather out-of-the-box installation. I use either ssh in a terminal or serviio-web to access it. I have the three folder - /media/videos, /media/shared/music, and /media/shared/pictures in the Library and the checkbox for each specific file type is selected. I.e. videos has "Share Video Files" ticked along with the "Retrieve Descriptive Metadata" and "Scan for file additions..." boxes and access is set at "Full." It really just worked when I installed it so I haven't messed with it much.

When viewing the contents of /opt/serviio-1.0.1/library/db/seg0 the files are all dated 10/23/12 (the installation date) but the files under db/log are current dates. I did find some updates in the sixth log file.

I'll keep messing with it. I'l re-name a couple of the missing movies and see if they appear on the tv or log files.

Re: Only second half of library in list?

OK, some more research:

It appears the problem is a limit in the Folders list view. If I go to "Movies" I get 50 pages of videos. But if I go to "Folders" > "videos" > I get on 10 pages of folder names - the last 200 folders in the list. If I add a folder in the upper part of the alphabet, I don't see it. If it's in the last 200 folders in the list - appears and pushes the previous #1 off the list.

Odd thing is - I didn't have this limit in the past. It's not like I added 176 movies last month.

Re: Only second half of library in list?

Ok, I decided to look at serviio through another device so I launched VLC on my desktop and scanned for UPnP servers. VLC detected both my Asus RT-AC66U router's built-in server and the Serviio server - but the serviio server never listed any files and the error console showed these errors when I tried to scan serviio for files

  Code:
[0x7f12e44b63d8] upnp services discovery error: UPNP_E_TIMEDOUT when trying the send() action with URL: http://192.168.1.250:8895/serviceControl
[0x7f12e44b63d8] upnp services discovery error: No response from browse() action
total jobs = 100, too many jobstotal jobs = 100,

It seems I must have something mis-configured. Maybe it's time to upgrade to 1.2.1 and start over?

Re: Only second half of library in list?

Scanning the net a bit leads me to believe that VLC might be the issue above and not serviio.

Re: Only second half of library in list?

OK latest: I noticed I was missing the java prerequisite on my install. I suspect this is only needed if you're using a GUI to access the server, but I installed it anyway, and rebooted.

No real change at this point, but I noticed on the Serviio Web interface that the Server has a green dot but "Checking Updates" and "Checking Additions" have red dots.

Re: Only second half of library in list?

Thanks for the clarity around the problem. Until then we were all going down the "missing metadata" path - clearly not the issue if Serviio is finding the movies and cataloging them under the Movie category.

The fact that Serviio is cataloging the movies suggests it is finding them. I am not aware of any restriction to the number of folders in Serviio, however your device may have a limit. Has anything changed on your device? You should check your the Serviio log to confirm files are getting added - it may also highlight where the issue is - if you can't see the issue yourself post your log here. The green dot is pointing to either it taking a long time to find files (does it go red eventually) or the process is hanging

One other suggestion - if you are not using the cataloging facility from Serviio (metadata), turn it off for now as a test. It will speed up your library refresh dramatically.

VLC player can take a while before showing content from Serviio. Give it some time - it works for me eventually.

Maybe it's time to upgrade to 1.2.1 and start over?

What version are you on. Perhaps upgrading would be best.

Re: Only second half of library in list?

Re: the device: Using the "Movie" method got 50 pages of files but the "Folder" route results in only 10 pages. Seems like a serviio limit rather than the device (I assume you meant the TV) since it changes when I choose a different path on the server. But you never know about these things until you stumble on the answer...

I'll turn off the metadata for now.

Clearly though - I would benefit from a more properly setup serviio. I could cull out the undesired folders and trim the data down to a more manageable level.

I suppose the upgrade is first priority. I may just wipe the whole thing and install the new version, letting the library rebuild from scratch. It's on a dedicated server so it's not like I would be without my desktop or anything.

I'll report back.
