video is stuttering

Hi. I'm new to serviio, but well linuxed. I just built a server, put Ubuntu 12.0.4 server on it and installed serviio. The ffmpeg bin was built from source. This machine has an AMD A8 processor with 16gb of ddr3. The video is integrated in the processor - there isn't a separate video card. I can run 720p mkv smoothly without stutter, but 1040i/p both stutter frequently. Now the only thing running on the server right now is serviio.

I understand that I'm not rendering video, but would an add in video card help transcoding, or at least take part of the graphic load?

Btw , the machine barely flinches as far as load when playing a video. Thoughts on where I might begin looking? Have I barked up the wrong tree?

Transcoding video, if happening, is the only real processor intensive activity. If transcoding is required (depends on your video and on your renderer device) it happens when you first start streaming the video (look for the ffmpeg task running).
A graphics card will not help transcoding - at present ffmpeg does not use GPU's.

For your stuttering problem look (a) your CPU load while ffmpeg is running, (b) to your network and (c) to the renderers capabilities (some TV's etc do not have the grunt to process high bit rate streams across DLNA). If you need further assistance, post details of your renderer (TV), the renderer profile selected by Serviio, your router model (and whether connected via wireless g/n or wired) and MediaInfo for the file you are trying to play.
