how do you remotely access media browser

Hi I'm a newbie to all this networking lark---However I have got Serviio content to work on my desktop computer where it was initially installed. I can play content to a Lan connected HiFi network player----I can also get content to work on i/pad-----i/phone---and android devices.

I can get content to work on a laptop connected to the same network using foobar2000v1.3 with UPnP plugin----it sees serviio and it has it's own embedded player.--------When I turn the desktop off everything stops---------Now I'm led to believe that as long as you have Serviio pro---you can access and play content from any computer------looking at serviio help guide for mediabrowser it says on any web browser you type in

URL:http://<pc5dczc_pc_ip_address>:23424/mediabrowser

I know the ip address of my desktop and have put various combination of numbers and letters in to no effect.

If you got the remote mediabrowser to work for you using this method can you write down the full http address. I don't need to know your own ip address.

All I want is an example of the full address-------with all punctuations plus an imaginary computer ip address that a newbie can follow.

From my desktop I can access mediabrowser from serviio console where it takes you to localhost23424 etc where you enter your password. I want to know how to
access serviio on a windows laptop pc when you are away from home-----thanx in anticipation.

Re: how do you remotely access media browser

PROBLEM SOLVED.

I'm a newbie to all this.

I first got involved with SERVIIO when I bought a network player for music playback on my hifi system. connected to my computer by LAN. I wanted to get the best quality I could, so converted to flac, I already had some mp3 files on there. I was learning as I went. The windows server was hit and miss, I read about serviio and went for it. I installed the program but could not understand what it was all about. So I Googled the web and watched a tutorial. I copied the guys methods and was very surprised when I got files to play. (brill quality and no drop outs) So now I wanted to get my music to play on my gadgets-------I got em to play on android phones and pads plus I also managed to get them playing on apple stuff. ----------the only thing I couldn't do was to get them playing on a small windows 8 laptop-------this I managed to crack yesterday using Fooba2000 plus UPnP/DLNA plugins.

Now all I wanted to do was to access my files from anywhere, using anything which had access to the internet. HENCE MY POSTING

I spent about 6 hrs on this------I read serviio help files the more I read the more confused I got, something to do with port forwarding-------I watched plenty of videos on u-tube and gave it a go------went into the settings of my router and connected a port to serviio-----but how do I get this to connect to my files on the serviio server---------well it was trial and error---------but in the end I got it to work.---------- I went to-----you get signal.com------this said my port was open and it gave me my external ip address.

After various combinations I typed in the following which worked, obviously I'm not going to give you my address so I'll alter my numbers around. but when you get your own external ip address then substitute your own numbers.

THIS IS WHAT WORKED http://42.133.164.16:23424/mediabrowser Instead of 42.133.164.16 which I have made up put in your own external address numbers.

It will take you to the serviio server then you put your code in which you have stipulated on the remote access tab on the serviio console---and by golly you can access and play your files from anywhere all you need is internet access.

I'll just clarify one point. I configured my own router for port forwarding ------the trouble with this from what I have read is that from time to time one of the last digits of my ip address can change-------so if your access works then it suddenly stops it will be down to this. you have to look at your ip address and update things accordingly------Now if you subscribe to some third party software----it will do this automatically for you.

WELL THAT'S ABOUT IT-----I HOPE THIS LOTS HELPS------HAPPY NEW YEAR----------FROM dibs

P.S. I'm into music-------if you have apple stuff or android-------get dropbox on your main computer----move your own music files into there-------on your gadgets----from the store get the dropbox app and install------------you can play your own files on anything---------If your main computer is turned off, some files are contained in your devices memory------so if you are not connected to the internet you can still play your own music.
