OSX - paths in playlist files

i have serviio running on a mac mini with an external drive. the library is on the drive, and serviio finds and scans the library as expected with "Add Path" to /Volumes/MUSIC-VIDEO/Music (with the exception of a folder named in cyrillic whose contents have cyrillic metadata.) however, playlists are not appearing. the .m3u files are very simple (as all playlists are), they live in the /Music directory, and look like this:

/Volumes/MUSIC-VIDEO/Music/SomeArtist/A Song by Artist.mp3
/Volumes/MUSIC-VIDEO/Music/SomeArtist/Another Song by Artist.mp3

i have tried everything with no success, including file extensions .wpl, .pls, etc. - i even tried escaping the dash in MUSIC\-VIDEO. am i wrong in thinking that the fu is in the path? the path is correct. is the program looking for something else? how about an example of a .m3u playlist that is known to be acceptable to serviio?

Re: OSX - paths in playlist files

I use .pls files. e.g.
  Code:
[playlist]
File1=..\Music\Kansas\The Best of Kansas\01 Carry On Wayward Son.m4a
Title1=The Best of Kansas - 1 - Carry On Wayward Son
Length1=321
File2=..\Music\I Am Giant\City Limits _ Neon Sunrise - EP\05 City Limits (Radio
Edit).m4a
Title2=City Limits / Neon Sunrise - EP - 5 - City Limits (Radio Edit)
Length2=204

...
NumberOfEntries=18
Version=2

I used a program to generate playlists, hence the Length fields - I'm not sure if these are required with Serviio or not. The backslashes were used because the files were generated in Windows XP. However, the playlists work in Linux. I imagine forward slashes, which are correct for Unix, will work.
Using Serviio on Debian "Wheezy" with Xbox 360, Sony BDP-S370 & Panasonic E6.
