Initial Setup - Gaps in Music Library

I have an iMac with over 10,000 songs in my iTunes folder recorded in Apple Lossless format.

I installed Serviio today in order to play my music through my OPPO BDP-95 blu ray disc player. I have tried several other media servers with little success. Either there were transcoding issues, or my FLAC files were not supported

Servio found both of my OPPO's ( I also have a BDP-105) and the generic DLNA profile seems to work fine with both of them.

I selected my shared folders for my music, and everything seemed to be going well. At least some of my music downloaded and played properly. Unfortunately only "some" downloaded. For instance, I own seven Al Stewart albums. Only the first, alphabetically, downloaded. Seems to be the same for any multi album artist. Some artists like Marc Knopfler did not download at all.

I've tried clearing shared folders from the Console and then reselecting. I've tried "Force Refresh". I've tried mapping to the music media files, and to iTunes. This just seems to create duplicates without finding any more albums.

I'm a newbie to this program. I'm also a relative newbie to MAC. Can someone help me please?

Re: Initial Setup - Gaps in Music Library

How long after starting serviio did you wait before trying to play the files?

On initial start up serviio can take a few hours to catalog and download metadata for large libraries. Just a thought :)

Re: Initial Setup - Gaps in Music Library

I did wait a couple of hours yesterday before attempting login. Perhaps it wasn't enough time, but I would think that when it scanned for changed files, it would pick up on the items not accreted the first time.

In any event, last night before going to bed, I deleted the Serviio ap and the Serviio Console and then reinstalled. Everything seemed to be proceeding smoothly so I went to bed. I did not get back to the program until noon today (11 hours later). At that point I had less in the server library that I had prior to my reinstall.

I also noticed, that when I highlighted the Serviio ap on my dock, it was 'not responding'. I checked the console status and it said 'running'. I used force quit to exit the ap, and then restarted from the Finder.

The Serviio logo came back up on my screen and bounced for a while. I checked the Library panel and under show status, 'checking for new files' was green and files were being shown accreting. 'Checking for updates' was also green, and checking the dock, the servo ap was running. A few minutes later, the dock showed the ap not responding again, and both lights under status were red.

In looking at my MAC Console, I see that after each restart the following entry appears:

3/27/14 12:34:17.164 PM com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[213]: (org.serviio.serviio.92608[7633]) Exited with code: 143

Also at one point this afternoon, I got an error message pop up saying "unexpected shutdown, error code #500". It only flashed and was gone - the code number might have been #50, I'm not sure.

"Houston, we have a problem"

Any suggestions?

Re: Initial Setup - Gaps in Music Library

Okay. I see my answer. From examining previous posts, apple lossless is not supported. This was from a thread going back to 2009. 90% of my music is m4a. That explains the large gaps in my library.

Thanks for all help and consideration. I'll be moving on to the next server.
