OSX - Disable under "Presentation" has no effect

all categories still appear in the mediabrowser no matter what i disable under the "Presentation" tab. this is not a deal-breaker, but i would like to reduce clutter, and it is a wonderful concept which lacks only implementation...

is this a known bug? something specific to OSX? to Java?
