Serviio dropping off network :-(

Hi All
Could really do with some help if possible. Been using Serviio for 2 years on my Ubuntu HP Proliant file server flawlessly. However about two months ago I noticed that even though the service was still running Serviio was no longer visible I have since moved over to v 1.4.1 but same problem really appreciate some thoughts on where to start with this one..
Thanks
John

Could be this issue perhaps?

Re: Serviio dropping off network :-(

I've also noticed that Serviio has been randomly dropping off of the network for me since I upgraded to the latest version. It used to happen very rarely (once a month), but it had done it several times within the past week.

Re: Serviio dropping off network :-(

There is nothing that would cause that in the code for a few versions back, AFAICT. It's probably some changes going on in your network / environment.

Re: Serviio dropping off network :-(

Thank you both...
Even though I had not knowingly made any network config or hardware changes I have now made some changes for the purposes of testing. I will report back.
I think it important to know that because Serviio has been running flawlessly for so long I was still on v 1.3 before the drops started..

Hi I took your suggestion seriously and made drastic changes to simplify the network connection however, I have attached a portion of my serviio. Log prior to it dropping off again last night. There do seem to be some issues with metadata grabbing but if you can find the time to have a quick glance through to either correct me if I'm wrong or tell me if there is any thing obvious to you I'd be so greatful... Really don't want to move away from Serviio...
Thank you.

Re: Serviio dropping off network :-(

These errors will not affect the network problem.

Re: Serviio dropping off network :-(

SOLVED..For anyone else that may read this here is my solution.
Although Zip had suggested this was likely to be a network issue I took his comments on board but as I also run MediaTomb alongside Serviio and it was still running perfectly well AND I had not made any network config changes (although it may also have have been caused by failing hardware !!) I decided to pursue the messages in the log file attached to this thread. I turned off both the "Keep library updated" and "Fetch metadata" this alone has stopped it from dropping the network connection. I will report back later when I turn these features back on individually....

Hope this helps someone..

Re: Serviio dropping off network :-(

I temporarily downgraded to 1.3 and the problem went away. After upgrading back to 1.4.x, it came back.

Re: Serviio dropping off network :-(

Digitoxin, your problem seems slightly different to my issues in that it also happened to me on 1.3, after nearly a week now without dropping off at all I put a check box against "keep updated" and have awoke this morning with no serviio on the network... Interesting

Re: Serviio dropping off network :-(

I have the same problem too. I cant seem to restart Serviio unless I reboot the server. Running on Ubuntu here, prev versions were rock solid, so I might revert to the previous version.

Hope you all work it out. Sadly I've now moved away from Serviio. Now using Plex and all I can say is wow...
Good luck all

Re: Serviio dropping off network :-(

So I also hopped to Plex to give it a try, I miss the 'series' option of Serviio.

But here's the interesting thing, I didn't disable Serviio. Since installing Plex Serviio has not disappeared once! So both running at the moment. Does that give any clues as to what might be the problem? This is on Ubuntu.

Re: Serviio dropping off network :-(

Only thing that comes to mind in my particular scenario was I needed to update the avahi utils package. Don't know if that would affect Serviio though as for me I have found that Plex serves ALL my media devices with no problems so I have been able to remove both it and Mediatomb..

Re: Serviio dropping off network :-(

Might be that the newer versions have different handling of slow metadata sources, or you blocked those sources in your firewall.

If firewall rules are set by url (not IP), a service restart may be required to rectify that.

Longer refresh intervals may help with slow sources, if one refresh does not finish before the next one starts. Not sure whether this could happen in Serviio, but I have seen it with other software.
