New User - Serviio won't run on Mac/Sony

Hi all,

I've tried to find some answers in previous posts and followed some advice but have no results.
I am not super techy so am battling a little!

I downloaded Serviio for the first time yesterday, 1.4.1.2 for mac.

Currently running OSX Mavericks 10.9.4

I have been to the Java site and upgraded my Java, now on 7 u67 x64.

I have deleted and reinstalled Serviio after updating Java.

Firewall is off.

When I click on the Serviio Server icon it just goes to the dock and bounces, then sits there. Hitting 'control' and clicking shows 'application not responding'. I found another user had posted this issue but there was no response from the forum.
The Serviio Console opens, shows the server is running, and detects (green dot) my new TV (Sony KDL-55W950B). I changed the profile to Bravia 2013 and added one local folder to the library to test it with only a few .mp4 files).

My TV doesn't detect the Serviio at all as far as i can tell.
(Apps > Movies > Media Player, comes up with no items to display)

The TV is connected to my wifi, the youtube app on there works fine.

Any suggestions?

p.s. I had a look at how to post the logs but it made no sense to me sorry... is there a simpler way for Mac?

Thanks all!

This might be the blind leading the blind (I'm a newbie on Windows) but where you go to Apps > Movies > Media Player on your tv I'd be looking for >Connected Devices rather than Apps. Then I'd expect to see the Serviio icon somewhere (not Media Player).

Also, have you done a >Library > Force Refresh in the Serviio Console?

Something to try, anyway.

Re: New User - Serviio won't run on Mac/Sony

I worked it out!

Thanks for the reply though.

FYI the issue was that the list of available servers to the TV (which include my Macbook and Serviio) was FULL.

The TV I bought was a display model, which meant that it had been connected to a number of wireless speakers (Sonos etc) in the shop, filling the available spots.
However, it does not tell you that this has happened when you go to find a new server.
Thanks a lot 'Smart' TV!

From reading the Manual, by chance I found that by going into 'Settings - Home Network Setup - Server Display Settings' you can 'see' your Serviio/Macbook in the list, and you then have to disable some of the existing connections from the memory to allow you to enable it to use the 'new' Serviio one.

It seems it can only remember 6 or 7 before if just refuses to show you new connections in the Media Player...
So that is a bit of a trap that might also happen if you have a lot of devices (wireless speakers, laptop, PC, a few friends bring laptop over, wireless HDD etc) connecting and then filling up your available memory slots so that you can't find new servers in future.

Anyway, I hope this can help somebody else.

Cheers.
