Some video files missing

Hi there,

I'm new to Serviio and guess I Need some help.

I am using an OPPO 103 for playback, currently with the "generic" profile.

I have added some local folders from my Server and they Show up when browsing serviio, using the Oppo 103.
anyway, I had to notice, that some files are NOT listed.
I played a bit with the profiles and think it is related to them.
Currently I am using the "generic" Profile and they are missing.
When using the "XBox360" profile they are listed, but I cannot Play them (they all Show with WMV in front)

I'm using the 1.4.1 release on a Windows 2008R2-Server

The files generally DO Play, if I put them on an USB Disk and attach this directly to the Oppo.
File is of type "m2ts" ( a Dolby-Trailer which can be legally downloaded here: http://www.demo-world.eu/trailers/redirect-high-definition.php?file=hd_dolby_spheres_v1_lossless-DWEU.m2ts&pic=hd_dolby_spheres_v1.jpg)
other m2ts files are shown and Play well, just not all of them.

Any ideas how I can make the Oppo see all the files and also Play them?

Thanks
Stefan

Re: Some video files missing

Often a file will not display if the name doesn't match the Internet database (thetvdb.com or themoviedb.com). It can be as simple as all capital letters, or an unexpected hyphen. The key is usually when they will show up in the Folders listing, but not under Titles. It shouldn't have anything to do with the M2TS extension, as I have a number of them and they all show up. Please provide some file name examples.

Through so, too, I therefore created a copy of the Video with simple 8.3-name. Didin't help.
Also it doesn't Show up in the Folder view.

The 8.3 name likely won't match anything in the online databases, and with movies the release year is almost always necessary for proper matching.

Since they are not showing up in the folder view, I suspect there's something in the file (video or audio codec) that makes Serviio think it's an unplayable file. If you could provide file info for one of the videos (use MediaInfo), someone that knows more than I do might notice what the issue is.

I don't know how your videos were created. I use MakeMKV for all my DVD and Blu-Ray rips, and everything has always played perfectly.

Re: Some video files missing

I'm not home at the moment, so I can only check that file info in the evening.

It is not a selfmade file, it is a download of an official Dolby Trailer, see download link in the initial post.

it is an M2TS, but I dpon't know what is inside... Audio is in Dolby TrueHD 7.1
May be this is the problem?
How could I tell Serviio to simply stream it as it is?

Re: Some video files missing

I suspect this file is not supported by your device (possibly due to the True HD Audio?). Serviio will stream it as it is (as you are using the Generic profile), but your device may be rejecting it.

Some devices will not list unsupported files, others will list them but show an exclamation mark or similar to let you know they are not supported, while others list them but don't play them. I suspect your device is in the first category (doesn't list them at all).

If you can, see whether the file appears when using MediaBrowser that comes with Serviio (must be a Pro user or in your Evaluation period). This will confirm it is a device issue. If it is (or if you cannot confirm) then try changing the profile assigned to your device in Serviio Console (Status tab) - the Generic profile does not transcode anything so your device has to support the file type. As a test, try other profiles (eg. the "Vizio TV" profile is at the other end of the spectrum - it transcodes everything - an overkill for your device but will test if this is the issue).

If this doesn't work remove the file from your shared folders and press "Force refresh" in Serviio Console. Turn on detailed logging, then move the file back to your shared folder and again press "Force refresh". Look at the log file - this will show the file being added to the library (or indicate that it cannot be added and possibly the reason why).

Re: Some video files missing

OK, the video looks ok. I believe I have videos with AVC L4.1, so that's likely not it. For audio, I'm going to have to defer to someone with more knowledge. I was under the impression that Serviio would take the base AC3 code if it couldn't handle the TrueHD stream. However, I do know that I do have some files with TrueHD that play fine, but that is because my player supports it without transcoding. That might be the difference. Especially since your file doesn't have a second audio track.

Re: Some video files missing

Well my Player (Oppo 103) definately supports the file's content.
If I put the same file on a USB drive and attach it to the Player, it plays it without any Problems.

I also tried various other profiles, even found somewhere a custom Profile for the older Oppo 83... no change...
I have tried with a different DLNA Service (the one from Win Server 2012R2 Essentials) and this works fine for the Video files.
Unfortunalely I cannot upgrade my Server to 2012R2 now, so this was just for testing.

Re: Some video files missing

First, some players will work OK with a video on a stick, but won't play the same video over DLNA, so it still might be a compatibility issue. Let's try a different profile. You've already tried the generic profile, which transcodes nothing. Then there's a profile at the other extreme, and I think it's the Direct TV profile that transcodes everything. See if the files appear on that profile. If they do, we know there's something amiss with the profile you were using, and an Oppo profile needs to be created. That's a little over my head to make from scratch, but there are tools available to determine exactly what your player supports. Once that is determined, building a profile is child's play for some people on this forum!

I can try that Profile this evening. Generalleutnant, as I Worte, the Player Access the file form other DLNA Servers, so the Player is really Not the issue here

Yes, but if the other players were transcoding the file, that could explain it playing over DLNA. I have no knowledge of what the Oppo supports over DLNA, so if Serviio did not recognize what format was required, that could be why it doesn't show on the list.

I just did a quick search to see what I could find, and the only thing I found was a pretty old posting listing what an Oppo player will support over DLNA:
•jpg
•mkv
•mp3
•mpg
•png
•vob

So M2TS isn't listed. Again, this is over 3 year old information, so maybe Oppo has updated their firmware to support other formats. Plus, your player isn't that old, so maybe it supports more types of media over DLNA. Let's see what happens with a profile that trancodes everything.

Re: Some video files missing

ok, now checked with

-files playing via HDD
-files playing via serviio (only the 5.1 one of course)
-files playing via Windows Server 2012R2 Mediaservice (this one Shows both Versions)

via all ways I can see on the Input section of my Receiver, that the Audio Comes through in the same way, meaning:
the 7.1 file comes as DolbyTrueHD in 7.1
the 5.1 file comes as DolbyDigital in 5.1

so it still seems that Serviio somehow "thinks" it shouldn't Show my file to my Oppo... no idea why...

So how could I tell the Profile to send all files straight as they are?

Regards
Stefan

Re: Some video files missing

To my knowledge, the Generic profile sends everything without transcoding. However, if Serviio thinks your player cannot play a file, it won't appear. How to alter that is out of my knowledge base. Hopefully someone else can chime in here about it.

Don't forget to try what DenyAll suggested above about testing with the web interface (Media Browser) and see if it plays that way.

Perhaps mime-type mapping? Post a detailed log of you playing the file and lets see what mime-type is being detected.

I tried but the log is quite big, 1.7MB even as ZIP.
Can't upload this here, pls see the file here. http://www.birdies.de/pc5dczc_part.zip

I have restarted Serviio and then turned on the Oppo, navigated to the Folder Holding the files and played the 5.1 one, that works.
Obviously I can't play the 7.1 file as I can't see it.

that's what you see in the log.
