One Time TV shows are named incorrectly

I record a number of TV shows using a Silicon Dust HD Homerun tuner.

I normally make sure that files of TV shows or movies are named correctly using the S0x.E0y naming convention as well as using TVDB.com. These show up with the proper names

But I also have recorded certain TV programs that are not in the TVDB.com database. And I also have certain personal video files that would not have a standard name. For example for one series of music concert programs from HDNet, the names of concerts all show up as "Gilbert and Sullivan Play". Of course this is not the correct name for the program

Is there a way that these non-standard TV programs or personal video files have to be named for Serviio. I'd like to get the 'correct' name for these non-series or personal video files

thanks

Re: One Time TV shows are named incorrectly

Currently you can only choose one option (of several) for filling in this information. Most people use the Internet option, which uses (as you know) the THETVDB web site for TV shows, and THEMOVIEDB for movies. As you noted, if it's not in their database, incorrect display names usually occur. Another option is to use local NFO files, which contain whatever you want them to contain. However, you can't use both at the same time.

So, you really have two options: accept that some files will not display a correct name, or create NFO files for all your media files. There may be software somewhere that will create these files automatically, but I don't know of any.

Or pass the IMDB id in the filename as a hint to the online extractor: http://wiki.serviio.org/doku.php?id=imb ... ata_naming

Re: One Time TV shows are named incorrectly

The OP's issue is that these video's are not in the TVDB.com database - either one time shows or home video's. As such there are really only two options at this stage:

  • Use local .nfo files as per atc98092's original answer. Unfortunately, as atc noted, as an all-or-nothing approach.
  • Separate all of these video's into a different shared folder, and turn off metadata for that folder (deselect the "M" symbol on the Status tab of Serviio console for that folder). This will stop the wrong names being assigned, but when viewing on any device you will only find these videos by their file name, under the "Folders" category.
