Can't get Serviio Pro to work outside of my network

I want to stream my videos from my home PC to my iPad outside of my network. In the remote section I have the box checked where it asks if I want serviio to configure my router. After that, I save it and run the test button. I then get the green arrow indicating the router is properly configured, I also have my password setup. Using my local machine, I can access Mediabrowser without a hitch and I can access Medianrowser on my iPad in my network without a problem. Now, when I go out of my network, it won't work. I type in my iPad chrome browser http://10.0.0.2:234242/Mediabrowser and nothing happens. That address is my IPv4 address and I'm not sure if I possibly missed a step? The FAQ talks about setting up a static address but it doesn't say it's necessary for it to work. Any help would be appreciated here.

10.0.0.2 is your internal IP address, and is not accessible from the Internet. You need to use your public IP address. Since that likely changes often (as it does if you don't pay your ISP for a static IP address) you need to use a dynamic DNS provider. I use DNSEXIT.com, as they offer a free service. Others are out there as well. It depends on the provider how you can set it up, but typically you run software on one computer inside your network that checks your public IP address regularly and updates the public DNS servers when it changes.

Re: Can't get Serviio Pro to work outside of my network

I signed up with the website you said and I thought I setup my dns but it keeps saying that The domain is not detected as a registered domain. The DNS for the domain on our system won't work untill the domain is registered and the domain is pointing to our name servers.

It keeps saying, To make the above DNS effective for your domain, you must have domain name servers (DNS) point to our DNS servers:
ns1.dnsExit.com
ns2.dnsExit.com
ns3.dnsExit.com
ns4.dnsExit.com

I already have the account setup and the domain MYSERVIIO.DNSDYNAMIC.ORG but I can't figure out how to register the domain and or point the domain servers to their DNS servers. Do I have to do both of these things or just one? I looked up there FAQ but nothing that would help.

Re: Can't get Serviio Pro to work outside of my network

You should be using their DNS name servers, and not have to do anything additional. Without access to your account, I can't offer much more assistance, and I don't want access to your account :) .

I'm at work right now, and our firewall blocks me from going to dnsexit so I can't look at my settings. My guess is you may have a setting incorrect in the account you created. Getting DNS to work correctly can be tedious at times, so don't worry about it. I'll check things out when I get home.

Re: Can't get Serviio Pro to work outside of my network

Yeah this sucks. I can't get anything to work here. I obviously don't know what I am doing with dnsexit.com. It keeps talking about pointing it to their servers but I have no clue how to do that. Nor do I know if I am even setting this up right. If anyone wants to do this with me step by step or wants to take a look at the account and set it up correctly I am willing to do that. Other than that, I don't know how else to get this darn remote connection to work ):

Re: Can't get Serviio Pro to work outside of my network

OK, I'm looking at my account right now.

Under Manage my account, the only domain service I have selected is "Domain DNS".

Under the DNS settings, I have one host record, and one alias. I don't believe I had to create either of those. I think it was done automatically. Make sure the "Dynamic DNS" setting is ON.

I have the DNSExit client installed and running on my primary Serviio computer. If you didn't install the client, this may be the problem. Here's the download page: http://www.dnsexit.com/Direct.sv?cmd=userIpClients. I'm using the Windows version 2.0 client with no issues. Make sure you've installed the client to run as a service. Then start the program interface and configure it. First you have to supply your credentials so it can log into their system. Once that's done, it provides a list of domain names you've signed up for (I have three). Select the correct name and set the update settings as necessary. That should be all there is to it.
