Can I have "Folders" thumbnails?

Hi,

I'm asking this before I submit a feature request.

I pretty much exclusively use a WDTV Live to watch videos. The WDTV Live library function is garbage (IMHO), but it makes up for that by displaying a hidden "folder.jpg" thumbnail at each folder level and a hidden "video_name.jpg" thumbnail for each video. Therefore, I have setup scripts and tools to automagically massage my "acquired" videos such that when browsing network shares it all looks very pretty. My folder structure is as follows:

Videos
+ Tv
+ Tv Show Name 01
+ Season 01
+ Season 02
+ Tv Show Name 02
+ Season 01
+ Season 02
+ Movies
+ Movie Name 01
+ Movie Name 02

And so my question is thus: Can I have "Folders" thumbnails? That is, when browsing the "Folders" view can I make Serviio use the images that I've already created? I want "Tv" to have my tv icon. I want "Tv Show Name 01" to have the image I set. I want "Season 01" to be the cool season specific image I snagged from theTVDB.

My tinkering around says no. The only thumbnails I got Serviio to display in the "Folders" view were the video thumbnails it generated or thumbnails named "video_name.jpg" that I previously generated. I couldn't get anything else to show.

Now, the "Movies" and "Series" views worked well, mostly. My tests with my generated images and Serviio's generated images gave the same results. The "Movies" were great, but the "Series" were missing season art. I want season art. Can I have season art?

Cheers,

No, you cannot have season art. Unless you use the Folders browsing category (not Series) - then each folder would have a thumbnail.

Re: Can I have "Folders" thumbnails?

Hmm... It would appear that my folder hierarchy was squashed. I hope you understood what I meant. I think you did.

Ok, I'm cool with using the "Folders" view. I would prefer that actually, since I like to move movies and shows I have watched to a watched folder that is still accessible, but not in the main folder, whereas the "Movies" and "Series" views just finds and clumps everything together regardless of their folder location.

Umm... So if I read you right, you're saying that in the "Folders" view I should be able to assign a thumbnail for each folder, right? I don't seem to be able to do that. How do I do that? I have a hidden "folder.jpg" at each level and they don't display. The only art I can get to display is the "<video_name>.jpg".

Re: Can I have "Folders" thumbnails?

Oh, actually you're right. It uses the first file's thumbnail as the folder thumbnail, so you cannot assign a folder thumbnail currently. Sorry for the confusion.

Re: Can I have "Folders" thumbnails?

You can get it this way with tv series:

Just put a small video file and the folder.jpg it this folder:
+ Tv Show Name 01

then it will show the image

But I too hope to get folder image in the next update

Hey, this works! I found it also works with music directories. I added a small .mp3 to my Kate Bush folder and now it displays a picture of Kate.

Thanks for this useful tip IvanDK, I've been trying for ages to find a workaround.
