Servio not seen by devices - devices not seen by Servio

Good news - Servio plays a ".dsf" file I have.

Bad news - I can only play files on the localhost Media Browser.

I have already viewed the Getting Started Guide and more than one FAQ

1) The Servio console doesn't see any other devices

2) The devices don't see Servio.

The Servio service is running - I have re-booted my computer several times

Windows Media Player sharing is operational, but my attached devices don't play ".dsf" files.

No errors, no symptoms other than silence. How to troubleshoot?

I should mention my devices - Roku 2, Roku 3, Sony BDP-S790ES, Sony DA-5700ES, Sony DA-3600ES, Windows 7 (a separate computer from where Servio is running).

None of these show "Servio", assuming that's how it would appear (none of the Servio materials actually say how it should appear!)

This sounds like a firewall issue. The default settings in Windows will block Serviio from the network, and will result in your symptoms.

My Windows firewall is turned OFF. This is not the issue. To be clear, I am an experienced IT professional and I know what it means to turn the Windows Firewall off - Windows is unhappy with me for doing so.

I have also checked that Serviio seems to be using the correct network port.

I can add that while none of my Sony devices can see my Windows Media Player "Media Server", another Windows 7 computer can see my Windows "Media Server" just fine. But it won't read .dsf files.

If I don't hear back because of receiving a REPLY I'll re-post my question so that it has zero replies.

OK, I wasn't trying to be condescending. You didn't state your experience level, and many people are unaware that Windows even has a firewall. I too have a great deal of IT experience, and was just suggesting the first place to look. Making a new post because I responded to your original post probably won't get you a response any faster.

My next suggestion would be to remove and reinstall Serviio. Make sure it's completely gone before re-install, including the install folder. Why? Don't have an explanation, but occasionally the Serviio install doesn't set everything correctly and a clean install seems to make it correct. I've installed Serviio on Windows XP, Server 2003, Home Server 2011, Windows 7 & 10, and have never encountered an issue. But from reading the forums it does seem to occasionally have a hiccup during install.

Also check/describe your networking. If not firewall related then this sounds like a networking issue to me - DLNA uses broadcasting (SSDP) to advertise the presence of media servers and media players on the network. As so many devices are not seeing Serviio and visa versa it suggests these broadcasts are not getting through.

Some things to check:

• Can you access Mediabrowser from the other PC? Not particularly relevant unless you say "no, you cannot" (and you are still in your Evaluation period or Pro)- in which case you have a broader networking issue.
• Are there any subnets/VLANs on your LAN?
• Are there multiple networking devices on your LAN (eg. multiple routers or switches)?
• Are the devices and server all connected via the same media (all on wireless or all on wired?) Some routers create each in separate broadcast domains.
• Check your router IGMP [Snooping} and UPNP settings - if they exist toggle them one at a time, restarting Serviio between toggles.
• Is sharing enabled on the server? Not a requirement normally but something to check.

I have that problem what you sad, I mean, I have now multiple routers, because I put a router (DLINK) between the PC and the main router (modem). Without that DLINK router was the system OK, the TV saw the serviio.
Clearly:
The connect was: PC (serviio) - modem (router) - router (linksys) - TV ; all connections with LAN cable
Now: PC (serviio) - router (Dlink) - modem (router) - router (linksys) - TV ; all connections with LAN cable
I put the router (Dlink), because I need wlan in that room, too.
I opened port in DLINK router, turned off NOD firewall, but it did'nt work with the DLINK router.

If I have the picture of your network in my mind right, then the easiest way to fix this is to turn the Dlink and Lynksys routers into switches (you may not need to do this for the Lynksys since you said it was working before, but I would anyway as it ultimately makes life much simpler). To do this:

• Log into your Dlink Router and turn off DHCP if not already the case.
• Remove the cable that goes to the WAN port on you Dlink Router (the one that comes from the Modem/Router) and plug it back in to a spare LAN port on the DLink.
• Reboot all devices connected to the Dlink (so as to get new IP addresses)

This will effectively turn the Dlink into a switch. Repeat the above for the Linksys router.

fyi: with more than one router in a network you create multiple broadcast domains (which is why Serviio cannot broadcast its presence to the devices on the other router, and vice versa). There are sophisticated ways to overcome this, but the easiest way is to simply get rid of the routers and use Switches. That's what I am suggesting above - plus it makes life a lot easier for other scenarios as well (broadcast domains are painful and generally unnecessary in a home network). The only downside is you lose a LAN port (and check your wireless connectivity, should be fine but some consumer devices may have issues).

After I made what you say, the whole LAN crashed (the main modem - the PC's did'nt have IP, and not just that PC what on DLink is). So it did'nt work. Now I reset that, so it's working, but without Dlink. The Linksys router was made to switch before, so that's OK.
The Dlink router is a DIR300. What did I make wrong? I made everything that way, you wrote.

I made, what you saw one more time, and it's working now, both router are in switch mode, and the LAN network is working, too, but the TV don't see the PC on the DLink router, just the PC on the linksys (but I need both PC's on TV).

But now works everything. DHCP was on on linksys router, I turned it off and it's OK.
