I am trying to stream movies from an HTPC (using Serviio) to an ATMOS-capable sound bar through Roku Premiere in the middle. Is it possible to get ATMOS audio using this set up?
Thanks.
I just responded to you on the Roku forum. If it is the lossless Atmos (Dolby TrueHD), the answer is no. Roku players will not bitstream lossless audio. The only audio they will bitstream is Dolby Digital, DD+, AAC and PCM via HDMI or optical. They will also bitstream DTS but only over HDMI to a supporting AVR/soundbar.
This also means the Roku players will not bitstream DTS-HD tracks of any kind. They will sometimes pass the lossy DTS core, but recent Roku firmware updates has caused problems with that, so all Roku profiles now transcode DTS-HD tracks to lossy DD.
