Using old PS3 for retro gaming and movies!! No SRT support?

Hi guys,

Nice to meet you all and congrats for your nice media server.

I opted for this solution instead of the classic PS3 media server as your software is neat and simple.

I managed to set it up succesfully but I can't see SRT subtitles when I play a movie. I have added a few movie folders and each one has the corresponding .srt file inside with the same filename as the movie file.

The movie plays fine on the PS3 but not the subs..

Please help.

BR,
George

Re: Using old PS3 for retro gaming and movies!! No SRT suppo

When I did a quick search online, it appears that the PS3 doesn't support SRT files. So the only way to get captions is to burn them in, which requires transcoding your video. It doesn't appear there's any other option available.

Thank you for your answer. Is there a chance that the server can transcode the srt into the video file in real time and send that to the PS3??

Yes, Serviio can burn in captions. You can find the setting in the Serviio console under Delivery/Subtitles. Just remember that this forces transcoding on all videos, perhaps even if there's no matching SRT file.
