[RESOLVED] Serviio Won't Load Audio Files on Roku Media

Just like the subject line says. I found it necessary recently to remove ALL shared folders from Serviio. Why is too long a story to explain, but suffice to say, REsharing video files didn't seem to present any issues, however once readding audo files (the same folders as previously set up), audio files are now being reported by Roku Media as "No compatible files found."

Refer to my sig for system info please.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

RESOLVED:

Turns out Serviio doesn't like huge libraries added in bulk. I had removed the original folder, which had thousands of files added over time, then attempted to add the folder back in. This failed because Serviio apparently "choked" on the large number of files. After a full two days of trying to update itself, nothing happened. As a resolution, I renamed the original folder, created a new folder names "Audo," then began adding smaller groups of files to the new folder before adding the new folder to Serviio. Now they are slowly showing up in Roku Media.

Yes it's old. Yes it's outdated. No I'm not going to upgrade. I make it work anyway, and it does.

So far... 8-)

Re: Suddenly Serviio Won't Load Audio Files on Roku Media

The Roku Media Player is garbage, and they haven't made any updates to it for at least 5 years. While the player itself hasn't changed, the underlying Roku OS (which is what RMP uses for playback) has been updated constantly. Roku has broken playback with files that used to play. Unfortunately there's little Serviio can do to resolve those playback issues.

Are you using the correct profile for your Roku player? I am the author of the various profiles for Roku devices included with Serviio, but they do not automatically get assigned for the best use. What model of Roku are you using, and I'll advise you which profile should work the best for you.

By the way, I agree that Roku Media is a lousy app, but it does still work for now. I'm sure eventually I'll be looking for something better. I do have Sonic, but at the moment it won't load on Roku Media.

For my primary media player I now use the Nvidia Shield, with Kodi as the player app. It plays everything I have on my Serviio machine without transcoding and will display captions without the need to burn them into the video stream, as the Roku requires for anything except text bases captions (SRT files or embedded EIA 608 captions).
