Serviio Service High CPU

I just started using Serviio the other day.

I have 1 shared folder with about 12 movies in it. I have about 8 online sources set up.

My serviioservice.exe has been pegged at about 50% on my PC for an hour or so now.

Earlier, it was pegged at 75%. I uninstalled and reinstalled. For a bit, it's CPU utilization was low, but then it crept up.

Is that normal? What do I do? I can't imagine that it's just going to use 50% of my CPU forever.

I don't really have enough media that it should be spending much time doing anything with it, no?

I'm also getting very choppy video when I try to play a 1080 movie trailer from my HD-Trailer online source. I don't know if it's related to the high CPU.

ServiioService.exe PID 3120 (if that means anything)

I disabled the service for a while, but now I re-enabled it and it's got me pegged at 99%.

It's really ratcheting up my CPU temp. Not good.

Why is it using so much CPU?

Re: Serviio Service High CPU

Did you change the library refresh option on the serviio console by chance? One of the things that process does is index your library files and online content.

EDIT - also what kind of CPU?

No, didn't touch the library refresh option. I don't really have too much in the library though. Would a good test be remove the shared folder and delete the online content and see if that brings things down? (By the way, an export/import function for the online services would be really nice)

I have an AMD Phenom x2. I had used the Bios to enable 2 additional cores and that had been working for a long time. It looks like it was overheating due to the serviio high CPU utilization, so I disabled those 2 extra cores. The 50% util earlier was on 4 cores and the 99% on 2 cores, so that probably does make sense. For what it's worth, when I did have 4 codes, it definitely was using all 4 cores. Even with the 2 cores, the temp got over 75deg C, but at least it didn't shut down, like it did earlier. Probably would have though if I left it keep running.

Re: Serviio Service High CPU

Also, for what it's worth, I have serviio on a Windows 7 laptop with almost the same library and online sources and have no such CPU utilization issues. It's using 0% on that one.

I just deleted the library and online sources and rebooted. Utilization is back to very little for serviioconsole.

Just added my shared folder back and utilization is still down for serviioconsole.exe, but ffmpeg.exe is doing some work now. Looks like that's stopped now too and everything is stable and low CPU util.

My movies do show up on the TV now as well.

Could I have had an incorrect online source that was causing the server to go crazy?

These are the online sources I had.
http://www.billboardtop20.com?start=1&r ... &codec=264
http://www.hd-trailers.net?start=1&res=1080&pref=apple
http://www.hd-trailers.net/top-movies?res=1080
http://www.hulu.com/feed/show/58/episodes
http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/stan ... /top_rated

I have the same ones on the PC with no issues except I don't have the youtube or hulu ones there. Those both appear to be valid feeds though, as I did see videos under them. I did have the bad PC set to retrieve 50 items and the good one 20.

Edit: I just noticed that the 2 that aren't on the laptop without a problem are the ones that are Online Feeds. The only ones on the good PC are Web Resources.

Any ideas now?

Re: Serviio Service High CPU

serviioconsole is the config tool - shouldnt be too much usage there
serviioservice is the dlna services, library refresh ect - usage will vary depending on what it's doing
ffmpeg is whats used when you are transcoding a movie for one of your devices - one thing to note is that if you start a movie.. watch it for one min then stop it on your device.. ffmpeg will continue to use cpu until the transcode completes.

Re: Serviio Service High CPU

Sorry for all the posts.

I added the 4 Web Resources that I have on the good PC to the one that was having high CPU util and now that's been pegged at 25% again for 10 minutes or so.

All of the feeds already appear on the TV, so it's done all the downloading and whatever else it needed to do.

I then deleted the 4 Web Resources. Then I stopped the serviioservice service (in windows services, not in the console) and I'm back down to 0% utilization.

Something is definitely wrong here.

I'll be happy to send you anything you might want.

Re: Serviio Service High CPU

Ok. So now I'm entering the Web Resources 1 at a time.

I first entered Billboard Top 20. Got a little usage from serviioservice and then back down to nothing. Added CBS - Survivor feed and same thing. I then added http://www.hd-trailers.net?start=1&res=1080&pref=apple and I'm pegged back at 25%. That went down after a few minutes.

Just added the 4th feed (another HD Trailers feed) and utilization is back down to 0. This time it didn't peg at 25% for a few minutes even.

Now I re-added the Hulu and Youtube fees and both are now there without any spike from serviioservice.exe.

I have it set to 20 items to retrieve, feed expiry 24 and high quality. Same settings on both PCs.

So, now I'm back to having my library folder and 6 online sources and no significant CPU utilization spike from serviio.

Edit: One last thing. I rebooted the PC. When it came back up, the online services didn't appear on the TV right away. They were rebuilt one at a time. They've been fully rebuilt for a few minutes now, but serviioservice has my CPU pegged at 50% again. I then deleted the youtube and hulu feeds and stopped and started the serviioservice in windows services and utilization is back to normal. One more restart without those 2 online feeds and serviioservice kicked up to 25% or so while it was reloading the 4 online services left and then it remained at 25%. Finally, I deleted the 4 online feeds, rebooted again and serviioservice never had a high CPU util at all.

I have the all plugin package loaded in my plugins folder. Is it searching through all of them somehow?

I also rebooted the "good" computer (that's a core i5 laptop) and that's got me pegged at 50% CPU utilization after the online services got rebuilt. Going to sign off now, so I'm not going to leave it be and see if it stays at 50% forever. Will see in the morning what happens once I wake it back up.
Hope you have some idea what might be going on. I'm baffled.

Re: Serviio Service High CPU

Ok. Here is where I'm at today. When I got up, the "good" (which we'll call the laptop now since both PCs appear to be acting similarly) Windows 7 laptop awoke from sleep mode and had a high CPU for serviioservice for a few more minutes and then that went back to normal. The laptop currently has 1 shared folder with about 10 videos and 4 online sources.

I then rebooted the laptop. serviioservice kicked up to about 25% right away and has stayed there for about and hour so far. I also stopped and started the serviioservice in windows services and it kicked right back up to 25% when it re-started. A little after that, it even kicked up to 50% and now is pegged there. According to resource monitor, serviioservice has 54 threads open right now.

On the Windows 8 desktop, I have deleted all of the online sources and just have 1 shared folder with about 10 videos. I rebooted it and serviioservice has pretty much been at 0% CPU the whole time.

Think I'm going to have to just use this without the online sources until you figure something out.

Any ideas?

Re: Serviio Service High CPU

try to enable detailed logging and when the CPU is high check what it's doing. It might be stuck on one particular online item - which was not there in the feed before, etc.

Where would I enable detailed logging? I don't see that anywhere in the console. Where does it store the log too?

Where do you want me to send the log to? Want to PM/Post your email?

Also, I'm doing some more testing here and I'm trying to figure out if maybe it's only occurring if either my TV or WDTV boxes are on at the time. It's possible that's the case. Maybe that's something for you to look at in the logs too.

Re: Serviio Service High CPU

Here you go.

This is a clean log after a reboot.

serviioservice CPU was pegged at about 50% the entire time.

Hope you can make something out of this.

Thanks!

Re: Serviio Service High CPU

Ok. I removed all of the files from the shared folder now.

Here's a log with no media except the online sources. CPU was over 50% the whole time.

Let me know what you make of this.

Zip file has no password.
