Can't get Serviio to start

I am still kind of a Linux/Ubuntu newbie. I do want kick the Windows habit a move more of my computer experience to Linux/Ubuntu. I can't get the shell script to run. I am using Ubuntu 11.10. My ffmpeg and dcraw are current I see there are errors posted in the log files but I don't know what they mean. I will paste them (first serviio.log followed by derby.log) here. Please forgive me for the volume. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

I don't see any errors in those logs.

I am assuming that is a complete log.

What exactly is the issue/problem you are having? It is not really clear based on your description.

Are you saying that serviio is no longer available after you close the terminal window? If so, try this.

or put that command in a shell script and add the script to your startup.

I also have the same problem on Ubuntu 12.04 server....

I installed all the pre-dependencies for ffmpeg from https://ffmpeg.org/trac/ffmpeg/wiki/UbuntuCompilationGuide and then downloaded and installed the latest Serviio install from the website.

The problem is, I just can't get it to start.

When I type

sudo start serviio

I get

, or something similar.

But when I check the status a couple of seconds later with

sudo status serviio

It gives me

serviio stop/waiting

This is really frustrating as I have had it working on 12.04 in the past before my old server died.

Is it not in serviio/log folder?

If not, then serviio isn't starting at all. Instead of using service to start serviio, try it in console first.

In serviio/bin folder:

See if that generates a log file.

I am assuming you have JAVA installed.

OK. Running ./serviio.sh in the serviio/bin folder still did not generate a log.

Both seem ok to me. I installed Java from the Java download section and ffmpeg etc from the Serviio wiki.

I removed the ITV plugin which was showing as an error in the logs and so far seems better.

You need to fix your ffmpeg installation. The program you have installed (from repo) is old and out-dated.
