Correct path for Library?

Hello,

Please excuse my lack of Linux knowledge.

I can't figure out what path I should be using in the Serviio console for my Synology NAS.

If I put /volume1/video (as outlined here: http://pcloadletter.co.uk/2012/01/25/serviio-syno-package/) the library is not scanned.

If I put \\volume1/video (as outlined here: http://www.serviio.org/component/content/article?id=21#q5) the library is not scanned.

But if I put them both then the Serviio console changes the second one to: /volume1/hones/\\volume1\video and it scans.

Which is correct? Why the different information?

Thanks.

Re: Correct path for Library?

Ah stuff it, I have given up after spending all day on it. Somebody should really try to work out how to make this thing more user friendly.

My system is OS X with Mountain Lion, Synology NAS, Panasonic ST50B telly, Sony BDP-S790, RT-N66U router.

These are the things I see wrong:-

1. You have to jump through hoops to get the package installed on your NAS, including installing Java.
2. You have to edit the OS X package to point to your remote NAS IP address.
3. The documentation scattered around the place contradicts itself, as per my original post.
4. You have to enable WebDAV on your NAS for no clearly explained reason.
5. You have to create a home folder on your NAS. No idea why it doesn't make sense to me, nothing is in there. I can't do transcoding anyway.
6. You have to muck about with user privileges on your NAS.
7. I think but I'm not sure there may be some port or redirection issues for my router but that's not explained clearly anywhere. There may also be Mac firewall issues, I have not seen any notes about it but it is mentioned in the Windows install section.
8. I have dual boot Windows and testing the console under there the remote section confirms connectivity using UPnP, the exact same method under OS X does not. It's not clear if I should be configuring that if only accessing through a local LAN anyway.
9. Console doesn't scan library under Windows anyway, and a post mentions you have to change the service privileges. Really? Not very user friendly.
10. Impossible to figure out how to get Serviio to scan your library.
11. Running the Serviio client under OS X doesn't actually do anything, it just jumps up and down in your dock and you can't open it. You have to force quit.
12. Assuming that I could even solve these problems then it would still be a nightmare figuring out what profiles to use for my telly and blu-ray player. Serviio defaults to one particular profile for the 790 and doc's suggest that is a good compromise, and yet there is a x90 one. The ST50B is a 2012 model, yet the ST generic is listed under 2011 so wouldn't have a clue which is best. People posting on the forums here all say something different. Heaven forbid if I ever had to try and edit them.
13. Probably a bunch of other problems that I can't remember right now, it's been a long day.

My advice, unless you're some sort of tech guru... give it a miss.

instead of just rolling over and giving up.. why don't you try giving us something useful like your serviio logs?

Re: Correct path for Library?

Installing it on a NAS IS a geek feature and is only supported by the community. Some of the other issues are valid, some depend on your network setup, OS ... this is not a simple application (required networking, etc) and in your setup even less.
