Transcoding on Directv Genie

Hello, I'm new to the whole transcoding thing but here is my situation. I've downloaded Serviio on to my Macbook Pro OSX. I'm trying to watch movies thru my Directv Genie. When I go to the mediacenter I can see all my movies but when I try to play them nothing happens. All the movies are in avi or mkv format.
