pc build to transcode and burn subtitles

hi!
After a few months trying serviio i finally decided to go pro. And to do this i'm setting up a new pc as htpc.
So i wanna know which are the system requirements to build a htpc and have a good performance on transcoding and burning subs into hd files (720-1080).
Now i'm running servii in a core2duo t6400 with 4g and w7 64bits (could be a so problem), and play back in a sony bravia ex455, when transcoding hd files the video glitch or stop for a while, sometimes it just stop and cause an error.
Thanks for all your help!

Re: pc build to transcode and burn subtitles

All depends on your budget, but i'd recommend the Intel Sandybridge i5-2500K Unlocked Core i5 Quad-Core Processor. A lot of grunt to transcode HD files and run plenty of other services if you require them.
4GB of RAM is probably sufficient but it can't hurt to go with 8GB as its so cheap these days.
What I tend to do is get a small SSD for the boot drive so the system is fast, but also a second normal drive for serviio to dump transcoding temporary files on, not a requirement though!

What is your home network like as this can affect play back too?

Re: pc build to transcode and burn subtitles

Hi, thanks for answering.
My home lan is a wireless with one router, 2 pc and 2 tv. One wireless, and the other will be connected directly to the HTPC.
The same u told me its what i have in mind. I was wondering which one would be enough: i3, i5 from intel or a A8 from AMD.
I also planing instead of an SSD just run a ramDISK for the temp files, so it must have 8 G or 16 G.
are there any diference in the GPU? i mean with the performance.
My original setup was:
gygabite H77-N
i3 3220
2X4G ddr3
1 Tb
radeon HD 7750
any idea?

Ffmpeg doesn't you the gpu for transcoding. Get a i5 to make sure you have enough processing overhead.

Are you running WiFi to the tv?

Re: pc build to transcode and burn subtitles

A quad-core AMD will be cheaper than an Intel cpu and more than capable to run serviio, transcode 1080p on the fly and inject subtitles no problem.
