Transcoding from / to WMA10
Hi all,
I posted a topic some days ago on how to control what formats should be transcoded for what client. I meanwhile had a look on the "Transcoding configuration"-site (http://www.serviio.org/index.php?option ... icle&id=24) and the profiles.xml and still have some questions on that. Perhaps it's easier to understand what I'm trying to do when I tell a bit about my environment.
I have a Windows 7-PC in my lower basement with all my data (family pictures / videos, documents, music, etc.I and meanwhile running Serviio. In the past I used to stream to a xBox in my living room and so my clips are all in WMV format (WMV9 video / WMV10 audio) so I do not loose 5.1 sound. I think I tested really every format I ever heard of but this combination really seems to be the best for xBox. I have another xBox in my workroom which is used as streaming client as well.
For about a half year I am having a new 3D TV (Philips) in my living room, running a built in, DLNA compatible streaming client. For this TV MKV (H264 video, AC3 audio) seems to fit best. But xBox is not capable of playing MKV, the TV is not capable of playing WMA10. As WMA10 is downward compatible the TV plays the first two soundtracks and the other four are missing. Unfortunately these first two seem to be the tracks for the surround speakers, so the voices are missing completely. If I tell Serviio to transcode, all is downgraded to stereo for the xBox and WMV is not transcoded at all, because the TV principally supports WMV/WMA.
I tried to change profiles.xml, so that WMV is transcoded for Philips TV 2010 + with the result that nothing is played anymore when accessing WMV, neither video nor audio.
Now the questions:
Looking at the supported codecs listed on the homepage it seems that Serviio doesn't unterstand WMA10 / WMAv3. Is that correct?
If so, is it planned to be supported in a future release?
Has anybody an idea for a workaround - except buying another streaming client
?
Best regards
Markus
